Remember when they had the Battle of Gods commercial with Gohan goin SSJ? Well that was passed by AT and everyone at TOEI so fuck knows wtf is happening over there. Either everyone is senile as fuck or they are too scared to speak against AT. It's like he is the George Lucas of modern day TOEI and everything after minus is like the prequels. I think they might be too scared to question him. That's the only I could see a human being approving DB Minus. Maybe Toriyama shared it with them and they were too afraid that he might get offended and quit if they pointed out that Toei already made a superior Bardock prequel a long time ago. I heard a rumor on Kanzenshuu that Toriyama was going to quit after the Champa saga. It's easy make baseless claims on the internet but apparently the guy was known for sharing spoilers well before they were officially released so who knows. It could be true when we look at how Toriyama seemed to have less involvement after the Champa saga and out of ideas. The staff suggested the idea for Zamasu, he apparently only drew a handful of new characters and outlined only a few of the major battles in the ToP, and someone else suggested he use Broly due to the character's huge popularity. It was also said that Toriyama's version of the Broly movie was too short so Toei had to add several plot points. If we compare that to BoG and RoF when he was said to have written the entire script for the movie, it seems that he handing off more of the work to the others involved. Toriyama turned 63 this year so I can't imagine he's going to continue for many years to come but they'll milk it as long as he's okay with it. I like to think they do it out of respect for Toriyama as the original author but I also think they know they can't get far without his name in the credits. Imagine if Toei decided to write a rebooted Broly movie on their own and made him stronger than Beerus. Fans would accuse them of wanking their exclusive character and disrespecting Toriyama's work by trying to make Broly canon. I still think it's funny. All of Broly's appearances in the video games/fanfiction throughout the years and it ends up being Toriyama who makes him the strongest and the star of the longest and highest budget DB movie.

I don't know where you got that from, but you are way wrong there. Toriyama's original official script for the movie would've resulted in a 3 hour movie if they didn't cut back on what he wrote for it.

I don't know where you got that from, but you are way wrong there. Toriyama's original official script for the movie would've resulted in a 3 hour movie if they didn't cut back on what he wrote for it. I've heard that one but I don't think it gives the whole story. This is from an interview with the head of Shueisha's Dragon Room: What sort of rapport did you have with Toriyama-sensei as he drafted the scenario? We kept close contact, mainly through e-mail, and meeting directly once every two months or so, as he made it for us. First, around the spring of 2017, we presented Toriyama-sensei with several different story suggestions for the new movie. I believe there were also suggestions that weren’t in his strike zone at all, but using what we threw his way as a reference, we got him to come up with the story. Once it was set that we would be doing a story involving the Saiyans, it was quick. Compared to the continuous, long story of the television series, if you have a two-hour movie, it’s easy to come up with a story that’s set up and resolved in two hours, so it might have been easy from Toriyama-sensei’s standpoint as well.
When was the scenario finished? I think it was around May of last year. The scenario we received at first, Toriyama-sensei himself said, “I think it might be a bit short…?”… And so from there we added several plot points. And then it ended up being unexpectedly long. (laughs) Now, we’re at the point where Toei Animation is expertly pulling it all together. (laughs)Then this is from an interview with the director of the Broly movie: How have you gone about turning Toriyama’s screenplay into a movie? With the exception of action scenes, we’re adapting his screenplay pretty much as-is. However, though we want to be as faithful to it as possible, unfortunately the allotted run time is short. When we first made storyboards for the entire screenplay, a movie that was supposed to only be 90 minutes turned out to be double that length.1 Enough for two whole movies (laughs). Trying to forcefully condense that much content together would make it feel like a clip show, which would be boring, so I consulted with the producers and everyone else involved to whittle down the scenes and make it the proper length. We’re adamant about delivering as much of Toriyama’s script to viewers as possible, so we were able to extend the run time a little bit.To make these fit together, I think Toriyama's original script was short then Shueisha worked with him to add more but it ended up being too long so Toei had to cut it down. If Toriyama wrote the whole thing himself, it would contradicted what the first guy from Shueisha said. The 3 hour screenplay must've been what Toei received after all the work was done between Toriyama and Shueisha but he credited it all to Toriyama for some reason. One person writing a three hour screenplay is huge considering that a novel that's hundreds of pages long can get adapted into a movie with less screentime. I think it would be awesome if he did it all himself because that would mean he dedicated more time to writing Broly than he did working on the rest of DBS.

I see. You might be right there. Alternatively what could've happened was his original was too short, then Toei provided a few more plot points, and using that he rewrote a new script that ended up being 3 hours long. So it sounds similar to what his editors did, but he's not forced to listen to Toei and instead works alongside them as a team.

Well the Dragon Room was created by Shueisha to help Toriyama come up with ideas and expand on them. Toei also helps him like with the previous movies and DBS sagas. I'm just saying that a single person writing a three hour screenplay is huge and if he's capable of that on his own then he likely wouldn't need help. It seems unlikely he could write a screenplay for a Broly movie that's as long or longer than what he wrote for BoG and RoF combined. His outline for the Universe Survival saga was said to be barebones by a Toei producer and that they had to add a lot to it themselves. I'm not sure what constitutes as "barebones" but based on all the differences between the anime and manga then his outline must not have been that detailed. I can't imagine that Toriyama would write more about Broly than he would for the biggest tournament in the series. The movie isn't entirely about Broly since it also covers some Saiyan history but it's named after him so I assume he's going to take up most of the screentime. Maybe Toriyama became a huge Broly fan after rewatching his movies .

Apparently this is supposed to be a leaked summary of the film from a Spanish site. 41 years ago, the king of the planet VEGETA had a baby, who became famous as the saiyan prince VEGETA in the not so distant future, and who prided himself on his latent ability as the strongest warrior. At the same time, his loyal military right-hand man, PARAGAS, also had the pleasure of receiving a new life, BROLY, who enjoyed untapped potential even more than VEGETA, but the jealous King VEGETA relegated the BROLY baby to a planet dark and distant inside a small space capsule. PARAGASS, furious, betrayed King VEGETA to go after his beloved son and found him on a stormy planet. Desperately, he lost his way back home, as the impact of the landing destroyed his ship, which meant that he and his son were left alone and abandoned for decades without any hope.
Currently on earth, six spheres of the Dragon are stolen from BULMA's laboratory by the resurrected FREEZER, who wishes to fulfill his ambition. Meanwhile, the FREEZER army patrol casually finds PARAGAS and BROLY in the far reaches of the galaxy and takes them to FREEZER, thus constituting a stronger battalion. Surprised by the highly trained combat power of BROLY, FREEZER waves the bloody shirt of PARAGAS and heads to the icy land where the Dragon Spheres are detected. GOKU and VEGETA, as they hurry towards the icy land to recover the lost Dragon Spheres, face again their permanent rival FREEZER and the formidable BROLY. The fatal battle is just beginning, but against the overwhelming power of BROLY that gradually evolves along the swing of the fight, GOKU and VEGETA will be forced to act defensively. I'm pretty sure Vegeta being 41 makes him younger than Goku. Vegeta was older in the original Bardock special and Minus so maybe the age is a mistranslation. I like what they're doing with Broly but not with Freeza wanting to steal the Dragonballs again and have revenge a third time. It would be nice if Vegeta or Broly get to kill Freeza this time. I can't see them letting him go after all this unless he sneaks away while they're fighting Broly.

Honestly the only thing I can think of that Frieza would want from the Earth DBs would be that he's going for immortality...AGAIN. Anything else he could attain through his own strength or just doesn't care about in the slightest (like resurrecting King Cold), or is beyond the power of Shenron to grant (making him stronger than Beerus or Zen-Oh or something).
Also, why only Goku and Vegeta? Gohan's on Earth too, right? And he's about on par with Golden Frieza, yes? Why doesn't he help? Dear God has he slacked off again and is already weaker than his Cell Games self? WHAT ABOUT MVP #17? WHY ISN'T HE HELPING? We literally just had an arc establishing that while Goku and Vegeta are indeed the strongest, there are actually OTHER strong fighters about on par with Frieza! FREAKING USE THEM TORIYAMA WTF WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE ToP BESIDES UI. WAS THERE EVEN ONE? Summary also makes me think Beerus and Whis are just going to chill out and eat ice cream again or something. ...But that's all assuming that spoiler is actually true. As for Vegeta getting the kill, I doubt it. I want to believe so much. I do. But bitter experience has taught me otherwise. Vegeta probably gets a bunch of Frieza's new elite mooks as a consolation prize, then gets smashed into a rock by Broly while Goku ULTRA INSTINCT SUPER SAIYAN BLUE 4 SPIRIT BOMBS Broly immediately afterwards using Vegeta's brave "distraction" or something while Frieza runs off out of fear he'll go back to Teddy Bear Hell.

AxalonYeah immortality seems to be the only thing he could wish for with the Earth Dragonballs. Based on the credits, it looks like Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks are the only other Z fighters that will appear. I don't think we've seen them in the trailers so maybe it's only a minor role at Capsule Corp. Also there might be some big twist or revelation at the end: Herms98 The DB Official Site interviews Lemo VA Tomokazu Sugita. Apparently the last scene of the movie is really something: "Goku finally...!" Also, Sugita desperately wants Cell to be in the next movie. He seriously won't shut up about it.Goku finally...activates UI at will? Goku finally...remembers to wish back King Kai? Goku finally...kisses his wife? Goku finally...puts on his EoZ gi?

I can't help but feel like this is due to Cell's popularity surging thanks to TFS. I mean, not that I care either way, since we all need a little more Perfection in our lives.

I just hope if we do get Cell in the next movie that it's a God form (or Devil/Makaioshin form) that Cell obtains and not just him getting Golden Form from Frieza's & Cold's cells. I wouldn't mind if it mixed the two as long as it was classified as the former and had Divine Ki.

@invaderjim I still have high hopes for this movie but mainly because I'm a big Broly fan. I'm not going to pretend Toriyama woke up one day and said "Broly has so much potential as a character! He must be rebooted and done right!". The first reason Toriyama gave for using Broly was his huge popularity so I'm glad they're at least being honest. One thing I am looking forward to is Paragus finding out that Freeza destroyed Planet Vegeta. He doesn't seem to be aware of that since he left Planet Vegeta before and was stuck on that planet with Broly since then. It would a kind of poetic justice for Freeza to be killed by Broly. Freeza's actions are what lead to him being killed by a regular SSJ the first time around. Now his desire for revenge once again lead to him being killed by the most fearsome SSJ of legend. No matter how many chances he's given, Freeza could never escape his destiny! I can't help but feel like this is due to Cell's popularity surging thanks to TFS. I mean, not that I care either way, since we all need a little more Perfection in our lives. The voice actor said he was a big fan of Dragonball growing up in elementary school and that he liked playing Cell in the old games. I'm not sure how popular Cell is in Japan but I assume third place after Freeza and Broly so most likely to be brought back after them. In all the various Cell revenge fanfics I've seen, he's usually brought back in one of three ways: 1. Gero's backup backup computer either uses some of the original Cell's DNA as a starting point or creates a new Cell and incorporates the DNA of stronger villains. 2. He trains in Hell for decades and somehow escapes or gets wished back. 3. A Cell Jr somehow survives the Cell Games and trains for many years to seek his revenge as an adult. Having him train for decades like most fanfics wouldn't be necessary in DBS since Freeza could reach God tier in four months. If Freeza could get that strong, Cell could probably be UI tier within a few months. Kami forbid he finds the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and spends an entire year in there! UI Vegetto might not be enough!

The fanart of that just looks to good for it not to be, but I would love if it was truly a Divine Form of some kind with Divine Ki derived from the Saiyan Cells' God Form potential. I'd like a mix between the 1st and 2nd. I honestly would love to see a DBS version of Xenoverse happen and him to be a villain after those events so he could have his DNA re-engineered with stronger villains from those events and other times after Cell Saga.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of this idea. Most villain revenge fanfics I've play out the same way. The villains comes back for revenge with a big power-up, they have one major battle, then killed by a new technique or transformation. It would be fun to watch but I think it would be pretty forgettable. Plus, Cell was the only villain Gohan defeated and gave him one of his best moments but Gohan probably wouldn't be involved if Cell comes back again in DBS. Gohan was too weak to do anything in the first four sagas and only offered some support in the ToP so I doubt they would ever let Gohan get strong enough to outshine Goku and Vegeta.

Gohan was too weak to do anything in the first four sagas and only offered some support in the ToP so I doubt they would ever let Gohan get strong enough to outshine Goku and Vegeta. If they ever bring back Cell it would be best to focus on his relationship/rivalry with Gohan to really make the character stand out and carry the story. Freeza works for a lot of people because his hatred of Goku and inability to change makes both characters stand out. As much people would like to focus on Vegeta and Freeza relationship Freeza doesn't seem to care about Vegeta and focus on Goku, which is fair since Goku was the one who handed him his first defeat, and it made for some interesting interactions during the Tournament of Power. Cell can't really do that with Goku too, because it doesn't really add anything new. Vegeta is the friendly rival to Goku while Freeza is the hated rival to Goku. Cell can't really work in between those two extremes, hence why Piccolo lost his status as both hated and friendly rival.
What made Cell stand out was he was Gohan's enemy to defeat. We all assumed he would be Goku's, but he turned out to be the one opponent Goku could not defeat and became Gohan's. If Cell comes back his rivalry with Gohan would have to be the focus on that and the potential interactions with them. Let's face it Cell isn't going to care about Vegeta. Freeza and Cell defeated Vegeta and see him as just there. Cell will have to focus on Gohan. The interesting thing about Cell is despite his similarities to Freeza he wants a good fight. Cell would likely not be satisfied with killing a Gohan who is rusty, because it doesn't prove anything. It is like Cell beating a Gohan who isn't trying and is a weak fight. Cell would likely try to push or force Gohan back into shape for an ultimate showdown to prove his superiority to Gohan. That is the only real hook that can be added to a Cell returns story. Cell and Gohan dynamic would be the ultimate focus. That requires Gohan to return to the lime light and possibly surpassing Vegeta and Goku again, which is something Toriyama gave up on for some reason.
Having said that given how Dragon Ball has been trying to relive its heyday I think a Cell returns could be a big selling point. They would market it as Cell having rematches with Vegeta, Goku, and Gohan. If they want to they could add Freeza, 17, 18, and Piccolo into the mix as well. The cyborgs have a grudge against Cell for absorbing them and killing 16. Piccolo was the first person to encounter and fight Cell. He would be the perfect opponent to give Piccolo a super power up to become relevant again. Cell and Freeza is a match people would want to see.

Sorry, I know I'm a couple months late to this thread... I'm actually okay with Broly coming back. DBS's power scaling is so ridiculous that a Saiyan villain makes more sense than anything else they could do. Broly's the natural choice: nobody cares about Turles, coming up with a new Saiyan didn't really work with U6, Super already blew its chance to use an evil Goku, and they're never going to redo Baby, so I'm perfectly fine with Toeiyama rebooting Broly to give him a PL to better fit his hype. (Certainly it's more believable with him than it was with Frieza.) Besides, after DBS's parade of villains--a vain god, a vain emperor, a stoic tough guy, another vain god, and another stoic tough guy--it might be refreshing to have a villain who just rushes in and beats the snot out of people. Let's face it: Broly is a fan favorite for a reason. His design is menacing and evokes power. He turns Goku and Vegeta's greatest strength--their Saiyan nature, which makes them Master Race to every other opponent--against them because he's a better Saiyan. And as Salagir's pointed out before, Broly is the berserker in a series of Smug Snakes, which makes him stand out and is tailor-made for a DB film, which doesn't have the time for an elaborate plot anyway. I actually enjoyed RoF more than BoG because, instead of trying (and failing) to tell a better story like BoG did, it just provided an excuse and lots of action. Broly can do that, too, but likely better, since he's way cooler than Frieza is. Of course I'm not happy with Toriyama further retconning Goku's backstory and Bardock with his crappy Superman ripoffs, but heck, if it comes with Broly getting a backstory besides "Goku's crying drove him mad" I won't complain. It helps that I like Broly's new design. Original Broly looked like a doofus untransformed and this new version, with his Yamcha hair and scars, darker color scheme, and Super Saiyan 4 yellow eyes, seems menacing and primal even without transforming. (The armor and pants make him resemble the U3 armored Broly, which I always considered an improvement over the original.) So good work, Toriyama--this is your first good design since Beerus and Whis six years ago. Anyway, we all know what happens: Broly beats the crap out of everyone, Vegeta doesn't get the win, Goku pulls something out of nowhere. Frieza's involvement in the story will probably be the role Vegeta played in the original film: being the guy who has to be convinced to help Goku to save the day. This is all the same crap we've seen dozens of times before and it's because we like seeing buff guys beat up other buff guys. The only major question is how long Paragus lasts before he gets killed off. On a different note, Broly and Paragus frustrate me because there's so much more potential with their concepts than gets explored. I always found Paragus more interesting than Broly, personally. For one thing, he's the only DB movie villain with an actual plan, and an elaborate, poetic-justice-laden one at that. But he was also compelling because he loved his son and was immensely proud of him, yet also terrified of him. Paragus struck me as a normal guy backed into a corner and just doing his best to survive. Broly also had potential since he was a victim of circumstance and was enslaved (for understandable reasons) by the only person who cared about him. I wouldn't mind seeing a version of Broly's story where Paragus was the main villian and Broly was his attack dog, maybe just to subvert DB's "power = everything" paradigm, give Broly a weakness to exploit, and perhaps even give the big guy a happy ending of sorts once Paragus has been dealt with. Apparently the last scene of the movie is really something: "Goku finally...!" Dies? Really, that'd be the most shocking thing they could do at this point. (Lol, that moment in your franchise where the most shocking thing you can do is have the main character die for the third time.) EDIT: And think about it. Toriyama keeps retconning Goku to be more like Superman, so why not give Goku his own Doomsday and have Broly kill him? >Bringing Cell back
I can't really add anything that Skar and Son Pan haven't already said better. Cell represents a threat to the status quo of Goku Must Never Be Upstaged, which is why he won't be brought back unless Toeiyama very awkwardly makes him forget Gohan killed him. With that said, a return of Cell could provide a decent character arc for Gohan: it was Cell who forced Gohan to be a hero; Gohan slacked off since then and was unable to stop Buu, Beerus, or Frieza, or even make a meaningful difference in the ToP. So if Cell returned and, say, kidnapped Videl and Pan and gave Gohan an ultimatum of "I'll give you three days to train before I kill them," it could bring everything full circle. Since Gohan didn't learn his lesson the first five times, he now gets a very effective reminder of why he needs to put away the scholar and embrace the awesome Future Gohan waiting to be discovered inside of him. Which is what he always should have done, Toriyama Ah, we can always dream.

Dies? Really, that'd be the most shocking thing they could do at this point. (Lol, that moment in your franchise where the most shocking thing you can do is have the main character die for the third time.) I think it's interesting that our expectations for Dragonball have dropped so much that we're guessing who the next former villain that gets powered up to universe level will be . I think Cell has more potential than Freeza. I don't mean just power but also development-wise since he's technically the youngest villain. He was born and immediately followed his programming to be become perfect so he didn't a chance to do much else with his life. Every chance Freeza gets, he tries to come back for revenge. I thought he underwent some development in the ToP but that looks like only a temporary alliance in hopes of getting the Super Dragonballs since he's back for revenge the following storyline. There's nothing wrong with an irredeemable villain but I just think it gets old after a while if they're not doing anything new. I think it would out of character for Goku to let him go after this movie. Goku is merciful but he has no problem killing his enemy if they waste the chances he gives them. Freeza has now had the most chances out of any villain in Dragonball. I don't think Cell will reform but he might be a little different after coming back. He assumed absorbing 17 and 18 would make him perfect but it only resulted in a big power-up so maybe he's looking for a new purpose. He still wants to improve himself but maybe more curious about what new abilities and knowledge he could acquire and less arrogant than before. He could be sorta like U17 Cell who more willing to admit when he's been surpassed and is looking new ways to improve in the tournament. Even if he doesn't change at all, I think he would still be more entertaining to watch than Freeza due to his wide array of abilities. If they're going for fan service, it makes sense to bring back the villain who is capable every cool technique in the series at least.

How I imagine Cell's return going down via an animated short.
>He thought he was the end-all, be-all ultimate life form. >He gets proven wrong. Hard. >He survives though, and comes back stronger! REVENGE TIME BITCHES. >He dies. >Now he's back! Time to train! >Achieves Ultra Platinum Super Perfect Cell status. >Goes to Earth >Who is this silly looking purple cat guy? OUT OF THE WAY FOOL, MY REVENGE IS AT HAND. >Slap the pudding cup away from the silly purple cat guy. >HAKAI >The End

I've been thinking what if Gohan being so weak is what causes Cell to change his ways?
Vegeta: We're no match for him Kakarot! Goku: And he didn't change color yet! Cell: I saw you guys fight Broly and realized that green is clearly the superior color! Piccolo: My man! Cell: Anyway where's Gohan? Your silver form and Vegeta's blue form sucks! I bet Gohan is stronger than both of you combined! Goku: Well he stopped training. He trained for a day to help us out in a tournament but that was it. Cell: What?! I have to get to the bottom of this! Cell ITs to Gohan's house Cell: Gohan! Come out here and explain yourself! Gohan: Oh no! Cell has returned! I better call father and Vegeta to deal with him- Cell: I already defeated them. I'm here for you! Gohan: Oh no! Then who will protect the Earth?! Cell: I'm not here for that anymore! Besides that's what Gero would've wanted. I just want a rematch with you. You're obviously too weak so let's become training buddies. Gohan: Oh...I'm kinda busy sorry. I have a lot of work to do. Cell: Work?! Well how much work will you get done if I stand outside your window and make funny faces! Gohan: You bastard! Ok fine I'll train with you. Piccolo: Can I please join? Cell: Sure why not. Piccolo: Shucks the Saiyans never let me train with them! Cell: We are brothers after all...or would I consider you one of my fathers? I don't know cloning is confusing.
