So I have a theory about the Kaioken technique. I've been thinking about this for a while now. I believe the Kaioken can make a person stronger after each use, and if used enough allow someone to pass their limit.
The Kaioken works by multiplying the user's energy. When this happens, the body is forced to tolerate far more energy than it's used to, which causes the pain brought on by the form. By forcing the body to tolerate an abnormally high energy level, you would adapt to it over time and become more capable of sustaining higher energy levels in your base form.
This explains part of the reason why Goku was able to powerscale so much in the Frieza saga, especially while he trained on the way to Namek. Being a Saiyan, his body was able to adapt to the form's power output more quickly.
So in theory, this form would give the user, even a human, almost unlimited potential. If you hit your limit, use of the Kaioken for a significant amount of time would force your body to become capable of handling higher energy levels, thus you can train your body further. Your physical limits can be exceeded easily if your ki is high enough; Goku and Vegeta have gone far past a Saiyan's base form limit without Zenkai.

The thing is, if you hit your limit, using the Kaioken for a significant amount of time carries a serious risk of death. If you manage to stay alive, then I would agree. As a strategy, in my opinion, it is extremely risky.

I think it's probably impossible for most users to stay in the form long enough to die, the physical exhaustion and pain would get to them before it became fatal. Funny thing is, last time Goku used Kaioken repeatedly was right before he powerscaled tremendously and became a Super Saiyan. Now he's using the Kaioken again in DBS and it's being hinted in trailers that he'll unlock a new form soon.

Interesting theory, but I believe the opposite is also plausible as well. Perhaps using the kaioken (even in the most ideal circumstances) can create something akin to the "Delayed Onset Ki Disorder" since not everybody is fit for the kaioken technique since theoretically not everybody can tolerate high levels of energy christhesaiyan. Goku is the exception since he is a saiyan who can become stronger from over usage via zenkais, but it is possible that humans can become stronger (or any race honestly) by constantly surpassing their limit which will reset their bar. Ultimately I am fine with both perspectives, but to be fair I think both outlooks needed to be posted to display the full spectrum. One where the kaioken can raise your limit in your base, or the other where using it can screw you over in the long-term.

DBZ Elsewhere played with this concept.
Yamcha managed to elevate his Kaioken level to 40x, almost rivalling Goku's Super Saiyan transformation.
Apparently, the secret for advanced Kaioken levels is gravity training. He goes up to 20x to match Goku's x20, but Goku thinks the strain will be too much. Yamcha replies he knew Goku stopped training his Kaioken once he turned Super Saiyan, so that's why he can only go up to x20.
"You may be stronger than me, but I know this is as high as you can go! The Kaioken puts stress on every inch of your body. You have to specifically train your body to handle the strain and contain the power spikes! Raw power doesn't matter if your body can't handle it. And the best way to condition yourself to handle that kind of stress is... Gravity training. And I worked up to 400 Gs!"
It was a brilliant concept, to be honest.

See if you think about it the aftereffects of Kaioken powerscaled Goku almost as much as Zenkai boosts. In theory a Saiyan should only get as much out of training as a human would. I mean training alone doesn't bring out a Zenkai boost, that only happens when you're near death. Not to mention Goku got a lot more out of training after he strained his body with the Kaioken.
