Which version of Goku you think did the most justice to his character?
Personally I will always say the Z /GT era because Goku was a selfless hero who would sacrifice everything just to help somebody out. Yes he still had his flaws, but his merits outclassed such concerns by miles.

Might sound typical, but DBZ. Goku truly was at his pinnacle in terms of personality which he kept his innocent nature from Dragonball, but was also shown to be competent in handling situations in a seemingly pragmatic manner. He was an adult in Z; not at all like the goofball they sometimes portray him as in Super. He was also compassionate; giving his (then) enemies chances not because he was naïve, but because he had faith that they could become better people someday(and so that they can later, you know, have another fight ). Finally, he was supportive. The quote that he says to Gohan (original dub aside) in the Time Chamber/ROSAT is some of the best in the series.
