Okay, so this is inspired by Axalon's "What-If Super Saiyan Remained Unique" thread. I've kinda been wanting to post something like this for a while, but I haven't quite figured out the skeleton until now. Up until now I was thinking Frieza would be after Buu in this scenario, but then I thought it might work better for the skeleton format if we included DBZ Movie 15 & 16, which are technically canon to Z. The below is just a skeleton, I'm curious how you guys would fill in everything (feel free to tweak it as you see fit as long as Frieza is the final boss): Okay so I'm thinking it would start with the Saiyans and works it's way up through other villains. I guess for Dr. Gero and the Androids to fit into Frieza's empire, Dr. Gero could've heard about the Saiyans coming to Earth and wished to speak to their master, Lord Frieza. In some for or another he'd join Frieza's ranks in hopes to get his revenge on Goku. After the events of Dr. Gero/Androids (Cell included), there would be Babidi and his minions, which I'd say were part of Frieza's ranks. Babidi could be Frieza's master sorcerer or something like that and Buu could be a weapon that Frieza has Babidi unleash only in the worst of scenario's since there is danger in using Buu. Then you'd get Beerus, who would just be a side event that happens unrelated to Frieza. Finally after that Frieza would finally be there to face our Z Warriors with his Golden Form being his Ultimate Trump card. So then how do you think the story would be different with Frieza being the final antagonist that is responsible for all the other antagonists (except Beerus though he's not 100% an antagonist)?

I like this idea! Toriyama cranked the cosmic scale up to MAXIMUM BROLY levels when DB went from the domination of Earth by the Red Ribbon Army/King Piccolo to suddenly ALIENS. Then we went from ALIENS to the Emperor of the UNIVERSE. Not the galaxy. Or galaxies. Or galactic quadrant. THE UNIVERSE. Which as we find out later in DBS is laughably small, but whatever. Going from Earth to the UNIVERSE is a huge jump and the result didn't really give us a whole lot. Compare this to U6, where Frost also had a massive empire but the universe just feels bigger thanks to it's Blade Runner vibes and stuff. I feel like Babadi and Frieza just couldn't work out. He'd have to try and control Frieza through his evil magic and honestly, I don't see what Frieza could do to stop him. He was a lot more evil than Vegeta was at the time he became Majinized. This is of course barring some kind of change in how Babadi works. I think Buu could still work out as he is, which is an ancient threat from times long past brought back to the present. Babadi could likewise be an ancient sorcerer seeking universal domination, and so seeks to unleash the power of Buu to achieve that goal. Raises some interesting possibilities/teasing/foreshadowing with Babadi potentially coming under attack from not only the Z Fighters, but from the Frieza Force as well. Frieza going last also gives us the EPIC possibility of the Ginyu Squad facing off against the Great Saiyaman in a pose-off to the death. I'd put Beerus after Frieza, in all honesty. Beerus would be a massive spike in danger with Frieza looking minuscule by comparison. (The alternative is Frieza somehow being stronger than Beerus, which rubs me the wrong way). By saving Beerus for after, or not even using him at all, Frieza is then built up as the ultimate, most powerful entity in DBZ. Could also tie-in nicely with Goku finally attaining Super Saiyan in the climactic grand finale atop an exploding and doomed Planet Namek against the Emperor of the Universe.

This sounds really promising! Since Toriyama improvised stuff, many things in DBZ come out of the blue. I'd love a rewrite with better foreshadowing, maybe even switching things around entirely. It feels wrong that some human doctor's androids could be stronger than Frieza, or that he and Babidi never encountered each other. So, a redo of the series that has the heroes gradually preparing for the confrontation with Frieza--sort of how The Last Airbender built up to the battle with Ozai--could have a nice payoff. Pros: -- Frieza arc may be the best writing Toriyama ever did. Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo get nice character arcs that (mostly) come to a satisfying conclusion, and it's the last time the Dragon Balls themselves are a main plot point and not just a casualty-undoer. While the final beam struggle of Cell was more intense, overall Frieza saga could be a fantastic series finisher. -- Power levels are (potentially) less crazy with Frieza last. Goku had to get over a million times stronger than he was against Vegeta to beat Frieza. By saving that jump for the end of the series, you could possibly stave off Goku Time a lot longer. Also, if Frieza's a planet-buster and the strongest villain, you don't get galaxy-destroying craziness and don't have to explain away or ignore issues like "why doesn't every battle post-Frieza blow up the planet it's taking place on?" -- Possibly Super Saiyan bargain sales are avoided. -- Frieza, hyped as the greatest threat in the universe, gets to keep his cred. To a lesser extent, the Ginyus are more formidable, too. -- Believe it or not, I think Battle of Gods would be strengthened if you had Frieza show up later than Cell or Buu. Battle of Gods basically said "Oh, everything Frieza did, he did on Beerus' orders" or something similar. Having Frieza be the most recently beaten and most powerful threat makes Beerus more relevant. He is the final Man Behind the Man. Issues: -- Super Saiyan was so meaningful because it was unveiled against Frieza, who'd been trying to prevent it. If you put Frieza last, you either need to have Super Saiyan before that (making the transformation a lot less significant) or else de-power all the other antagonists and cut out a lot of other iconic scenes. -- Gohan's arc needs to be rewritten or cut out entirely, since it revolves around him surpassing his dad. A big part of the reason why Gohan's a big deal is because Goku is the legendary Super Saiyan who beat Frieza. You can't have Goku hand over the reins to Gohan if you need to have Goku kill Frieza later on. Also can't make Gohan a SS2 if his daddy hasn't gone SS1 yet -- I don't see Vegeta being redeemed unless Frieza's dead. Killing Frieza was Vegeta's entire life motivation, and once Frieza died--at Goku's hands, a lowborn who was the legendary Super Saiyan, not him--Vegeta needed a new purpose in life. That eventually became surpassing Goku, then having a family, then achieving inner peace. Goku dying against Cell also played a huge role. If you want to keep Vegeta's role on Namek similar to what it was, then you can't redeem him before that. If you want to have Vegeta become a sorta-good guy before that, then you have to tweak Namek. -- Cell, Supreme Kai, Babidi, and Buu all need serious retweaks to make them earlier, lesser threats than Frieza. (Especially Cell, who was made from Frieza.) -- Lotsa people have to either not die or die at different times. If you want to keep the impact of Vegeta's deathbed "kill Frieza for me, Kakarot" speech, it has to be his first death--you can't have him die against Buu. Same with Goku against Cell. Having him die twice before Frieza is just silly So, what to do? -- The first big question is what comes first: Androids, Saiyans, or Babidi? -- Androids could work as beginning-of-Z villains. All you have to say is they're stronger than God (Kami) and you'd get people's attention. You might have to seriously rework Future Trunks, though. -- -- If the Z-Fighters "beat" the Androids peacefully, you can still have Cell show up years later to try and absorb them...preferably after the Saiyan saga, so he could've picked up Vegeta's cells. -- Have Supreme Kai helpless against Frieza and seeking the Z-Fighters help. Make Babidi a henchman of Frieza's (and his Majin magic can't affect Frieza, since Frieza is The Big Bad.) Babidi's been sent to earth to awaken Majin Buu to help Frieza's war effort. -- -- Or, Babidi wants to resurrect Majin Buu so he can kill Frieza/Supreme Kai, not knowing how destructive Buu is. Supreme Kai is there to stop Buu's resurrection. -- -- If Saiyan Saga is put pre-Buu, and Vegeta's had some years to acclimate to Earth, we could say that Babidi is a servant of Frieza's whose magic can brainwash people (including rebellious WTO members) into being loyal to Frieza. Among other things, Frieza's sent him to earth to do this to the AWOL Vegeta, hence Majin Vegeta. -- Entire timeline is condensed into a few years, so Gohan never becomes an adult. OR, his role on Namek is replaced by Goten. I have ideas for how I'd do this and may write them out in full later, but at the moment I don't want to tell you how you should write your idea

What about introducing the Androids Number 19 and 20 the same time as the Saiyan Saga? Gero would take less time for the Android creating process, that can line up with Vegeta’s arrival on Earth. It’d be a complete three-way war for Earth in a sense, Z warriors fighting the androids again in addition to protecting it from the Saiyans. Either side can defeat the Androids but a spy drone is still there to witness the rest of the Goku Vs Vegeta fight. "Saiyan Saga" Goku wins the fight as usual, decide that he needs to recollect the Dragon Balls to wish back those who died from this fight. Vegeta overhears this and flees to get healed before his next quest for the Dragon Balls on Earth. (This is crucial he goes back to Earth instead of “discovering” Namek for this re-write.) The Red Ribbon army retreats but extract sample DNA from each warrior to create Cell, apparently, there was some unknown DNA on Vegeta’s armor (Frieza grabbed the shoulder pad as a threat or something) so Cell can have the same DNA composition as normal, save for King Cold’s DNA if you want to be accurate. The Time Travel mechanic is going to be tricky to introduce Trunks.
"Normal" Android Saga... but really Cell and 17 and 18 Saga. Upon Vegeta’s return to Earth, he ends up teaming with Kakarot and discovers a more respective attitude towards the low class Saiyan for climbing the ranks so swiftly. Teams up because Number 17 and 18 are damaging the planet, Vegeta needs Earth intact so he can sell it for Frieza, Goku only accepts because it’s just Vegeta (Nappa died last time) and the Androids are dangerous in huge numbers. Goku and Vegeta take down the Androids, Vegeta’s ship gets damaged in the fight, stranded, Vegeta takes residence at Bulma’s place as a way for everyone to keep their eye on Vegeta. They shack up, Baby Trunks is born. (Rework the History of Trunks special so his age corresponds with this new change of events. Alternately the Trunks that goes back and warns Goku of the Androids Number 17 and 18 is younger since he was born “later.” Not too important.
Vegeta gets relatively nicer after a decent amount of time (probably 7 years) after being forced to live a new life on Earth. Goku and Vegeta continue their rivalry, Cell shows up (the time travel one, present one is still growing but was taken care of by Krillin). Cell does a shit ton of killing, Vegeta notes the similarities between Cell and his former master Frieza, both physically and killing-spree-mentality. He gets angered at this, tries to take down Cell, can have the Future Trunks’ death for more impact, not too important again. Now it gets tricky for writing Cell’s defeat because Goku doesn’t know IT, beam struggle? He’d know how it would end if Cell access Vegeta’s memories of the first fight with Goku. Kami/Piccolo dies at some point (fused or not, they would need a reason to go to Namek) and tells Goku to head to Namek and use their DB’s. (This whole time, Vegeta left his Communicator function on during the first encounter with Kakarot and Frieza was already searching for the Dragon Balls since, yet only found the planet after “this time” because of its discrete location. Either that or none of his men were stationed near Namek, it’d be difficult to pinpoint. Vegeta goes with Goku (bc he’s bored? Idk) and they head for Namek. If you want to include more characters such as Gohan, or Bulma, or Krillin, go ahead.
Majin Buu Saga (Off World) Goku and Vegeta encounter Majin Buu on the way because they notice a few planets being destroyed by some scrotum Babidi. Babidi notes that the energy of the two are unexpectedly high, almost rivaling the approximate strength of the Super Saiyan that his master (Frieza) warned him of. (Babidi is ordered by Frieza to eliminate the planets that weren’t profitable or the ones that have a rebellion and Frieza didn’t want to be bothered.) Vegeta notes the “approximate strength” thinking he’s close to SS bc of his royal blood. That and it could be Frieza’s weakness. Majin Vegeta occurs bc it’s his “last chance” to meet Lord Frieza once again, only he shakes it off because he realizes how much he despises the bastard and how much he enjoys training with Kakarot and having a family. Retweak Buu so that he’s weaker than Frieza, I’ll leave this part open for others to work on the power scaling.
FREEZA SAGA The two resume the trip to Namek, Vegeta having a different agenda: revolt against his boss with his “new” Super Saiyan abilities… and then the showdown on Namek occurs. Vegeta in a near death moment (eventually gets healed by Dende) realizes what selflessness could do, decides to help the Namekians gather the DB’s instead of blindly fighting Frieza, admits Goku is better and he’s gotta be the Saiyan to defeat Frieza. First wish to bring back Piccolo, second to bring the Namekians to Earth, third wish is on standby while Goku Vs Frieza occurs. Frieza kills Vegeta… or Krillin, depends if the story had him bring other friends along, FINALLY GETS SUPER SAIYAN, Goku tells Vegeta to flee or Namekians use the Dragon Balls to bring every else left except Goku and Frieza (everyone else left because the second wish was specifically the Namekians being transported). Vegeta pops back to Earth, tells the rest of his friends and family the sad news that Goku is left on an alien planet to defeat Vegeta’s original employer, Lord Frieza, murderer of their entire race and hence Vegeta’s backstory. Goku sacrifices himself to ensure Frieza stays dead on Namek… of fucking course this fails. Now here’s where Beerus comes in the next edit.
Edit: BoG and RoF. Goku being urged to return from the dead stays with King Kai for a bit to train on his planet again (Porunga will eventually wish back Goku before the Namekians depart for New Namek). Frieza can be Mechanized, either way works, brings King Cold, and heads to Earth (makes sense on spying Vegeta's location instead of hearing Goku say "SAIYAN FROM EARTH!"). The threat is back and catches Lord Beerus' attention. (Beats him, sends him to Earth's hell, two seconds) Alternatively Goku returns to Earth, Beerus discovers the Saiyan that defeats the Emperor of the Universe (that destroyed Planet Vegeta for him) and then we have him tell us he's stronger than Frieza. Everyone shocked, Goku and Vegeta surprised, they want to fight him. BoG as usual.
Now here's the issue for the story change. RoF. He comes back, gets "twice" as strong as last time (because he was the original final boss) and Goku and Vegeta struggle. Beerus (food reasons) comes back to Earth, Frieza blurts out Beerus ordered him to destroy the planet. Goku and Vegeta catch wind of this and puts a strain on their relationship with Beerus, even though they eventually decide to train under him.... Whis as the final mentor. Either Beerus tells Goku and Vegeta to kill off Frieza to prove worthy of training under him or Beerus steps in again to prove his superiority.
Gonna ignore the Super series for now since this topic is under the Z section.

The Frieza arc was good, but this is also where the power creep went up to unbearable levels (and we hadn't even reached Cell yet!) and where we saw the permanent discarding of many characters. That said, you could actually have that discarding happen by this arc, since if Frieza is saved for last then the power scaling is at it's peak if you will. Depending on if Super Saiyan is saved for Frieza or not, then this would simply be a natural progression of power. If Goku gets it by say, Cell or Buu, then yeah a lot more work would be required to try and keep the other characters with him, assuming that's even a goal. That said I think we all know what arc I would put up as best Toriyama writing: Characters dying, Shendron dead so no quick fixer-uppers, Goku's not strong enough, his main method of travel, the Flying Nimbus, is destroyed, Tien feverishly working on the Mafuba, world domination by a villain that isn't that silly Pilaf, King Piccolo Day, so many great things came out of this. He even checks Goku's pulse to see if he's dead after he thinks he's killed him, instead of just assuming he killed him with an attack.

I wouldn't change power scaling too much, but their might be some room for have it not climb so quickly. Anyways after reading your posts, Ashanark & Axalon, I thought about how it does need maybe some more tweaking and I thought of something that could be tweaked at the beginning and a couple tweaks that could be done at the very end of the original DB. So at the end of the original DB, we could have it shown that Goku and Chi-Chi have a son and they name him Gohan after Grandpa Gohan. Another thing we could have is that we see Dr. Gero and he clearly has the Red Ribbon symbol on him. He remembers finding the body of his dead son, the one that 16 was modeled after, right after Goku had defeated the Red Ribbon Army. He's in some secret location stewing in his anger and cursing Son Goku something mighty fierce. So after those changes to the very end of DB, DBZ I'm thinking could start with quite a major tweak. Instead of starting with Raditz's appearance, it starts with the History of Trunks. We see a grown up Son Gohan fighting against Androids bearing the mark of the Red Ribbon Army. Instead of Gero being dead at the hands of the Androids, he is very much alive with having not happened. We see scenes of Gohan fighting Androids and also ones of him training Trunks. Then of course we get the scene of Gohan dying by the hands of the Androids and Trunks unleashing his rage becoming Super Saiyan. We then get a transition to a scene of Trunks talking with Bulma about the Time Machine she's building. That's where we end the History of Trunks sequence for now and we'd head back in time to the Saiyans part of the story. I'm not sure where to go with it from here. I'm gonna need to give it some thought. My current train of thought is maybe that the Saiyan Saga happen and transition to Namek, but there is no Frieza presence on Namek. Feel free to help me out if you want.

He even checks Goku's pulse to see if he's dead after he thinks he's killed him, instead of just assuming he killed him with an attack. You probably know that Imperfect Cell is my favorite. The idea of a stealth villain that's easy to handle at first but uses his brains to evade the heroes while gradually becoming stronger--especially if you add in the nightmare fuel of his design, how he gets stronger by eating people, how the eating process actually looks, and his aura that is the souls of his victims--is just way appealing to me. But King Piccolo is #2 in my book. All things considered probably the most competent villain of the series, too. Always loved the pulse-checking. I would say the King Piccolo saga definitely had the highest stakes. And when it comes to "already established dreaded evils," King Piccolo's a lot better than Frieza or Buu. However, I put Frieza's finale over Piccolo's because 1) the final fight was a bit more evenly matched and had a cleverer resolution (Frieza beating himself); 2) Goku and Vegeta's arcs had a very nice finish; 3) as far as bogus powerups go, I think Super Saiyan was foreshadowed better than the Ultra Divine Water and so is slightly less of a Deus Ex Machina; 4) the Z-Fighters pull some pretty clever tricks with the Dragon Balls to make sure things work out; 5) Goku sparing Frieza, at least initially, was a great character moment; and 6) the final battle's on an exploding planet, how epic is that? But that's my opinion. And I agree, Frieza saga has by far the most ridiculous power creep. King Piccolo was such an awesome villain, I often wish there was some way to rewrite the series so that he's still a formidable threat, even in the DBZ era. The amount of dread the guy inspired surely should be enough to justify making him equal to Nappa at least... @topic If it was up to me, at this moment I'd put the series order as Saiyans > Androids > Buu > Frieza > Beerus. Vegeta's ship gets destroyed during the battle with Goku, so instead of leaving for Frieza Planet 419 or whatever, he stays on Earth and gets healed by the Z-Fighters. Buu plays the Nappa role and kills everyone, necessitating the trip to Namek to get the Dragon Balls. As for Cell, he can either come right after the Androids and set up the Buu saga as normal...OR, he can attack Earth while Goku and the other guys are away on Namek. So it's Gohan, alone on Earth, trying to stop Cell from absorbing 17 and 18, with no Goku to bail him out

So it's Gohan, alone on Earth, trying to stop Cell from absorbing 17 and 18, with no Goku to bail him out Well the reason I was thinking Beerus should be before Frieza is so that SSJG & SSJB are achieved. The only major difference on the part of Golden Frieza is that trained many many years to finally reach that point. With him being the final villain, he'd hear that the Androids he had sent out to I guess retrieve Vegeta and dominate Earth had failed in their mission due to a Saiyan monkey accomplishing Super Saiyan. These Androids or maybe it's only one of them and a group of Frieza's generic soldiers wouldn't be 17 & 18. Anyways having heard that his greatest fear has finally happened, it would prompt him to train while he sends stronger henchmen after the Z Warriors. Each group would somehow end in failure until the final showdown with Frieza. Now that's not to say that the Z Warriors would win every battle the first time through. Maybe they lose and are forced to make tactical retreats in some scenarios. Of course this is more or less a skeleton with just a little bit more on the bones than just bones. I'll have to work more on how I think events would go. I still have to think about how I want Saiyan Saga and what-not to go down.

All the Freeza arc needs is a few tweaks and changes and it can stay right after the Saiyan arc without drastically altering the series. The whole battle shouldn't be on Namek. That forced the heroes to need extreme power ups to face Freeza. That is why zenkai boost got overpowered and threw the power scale off for everyone. Freeza arc should be divided into two or three arcs, which turns Freeza from the main villain of one arc and instead turns him into one of the main villains with a recurring status. That way his power level and all his transformations stay intact, but since he is spread out throughout multiple arcs it gives the protagonists more time to build up to his level through training and less substantial power ups.
Namek arc
That can be entirely the same as it was until the Ginyu Force show up. It would make more sense to have two members show up on Namek. It conserves the strength of the unit, while giving the audience a glimpse of how strong Freeza's most elite fighting force actually is. Guldo and Recoome show up. Guldo's powers can easily let him steal the Dragon Balls and go back to Freeza, while Recoome handles everyone else on his own, since he basically did that anyway. When Goku arrives at the nick of time he still heals everyone with his last senzu, defeats Recoome easily, amazes everyone, and the massive increase can still let Vegeta wonder if he is becoming the Legendary Super Saiyan. They regroup at the Elder's place and come up with a plan to get the Dragon Balls away from Freeza. Goku, Vegeta, and Nail agree to fight Freeza to distract him, while Krillin, Dende, and Gohan fight Guldo and steal the Dragon Balls. Vegeta would still receive a zenkai, but instead of the massive one that took him from below the Ginyu all the way to Freeza's first form it puts him above Goku's power, puts him somewhere in 100K range. We get a battle on two fronts. Krillin and Gohan getting a chance to shine against an enemy that is closer to their level, while the big guns face the god monster that is Freeza.
Freeza show off how powerful his first form is and it actually forces Goku and Vegeta to work together to try to stop him. Nail helps them out. We get a good showing off what all of them can do. Eventually all three of them score some serious hits on Freeza that gives them hope they can win. Vegeta gets all cocky, goads Freeza into transforming and we learn just how utterly powerless everyone is compared to Freeza. He utterly overpowers them so easily that Goku has to use his trump card and go for a 10x Kaioken. The power spike is so large that it eats away at his body, yet all it does is let Goku land a few blows and fire a massive Kamehamaha fueled with most of his ki, yet it only gives Freeza a few scratches. Goku passes out of exhaustion. Nail steps up to distract him long enough for Vegeta to get away with Goku (Vegeta realizes he needs Goku's help if he has any chance of defeating Freeza) and somehow tricks Freeza into thinking he killed the Saiyans. Meanwhile Krillin and Gohan fight Guldo and eventually find a way to overcome his psychic powers. By the time they defeat him they sense Freeza is heading their way. They and Dende hide nearby. Freeza overjoyed at the thought of eliminating the last of the Saiyans, capturing a Namek alive, and possessing all seven Dragon Balls decides to leave on his ship to torture Nail into giving him information on how to use the balls.
The arc ends with the heroes and Vegeta battered and defeated. They all resolve to get stronger to defeat Freeza and rescue Nail (or in Vegeta's case steal the DB). That set up the next arc.
Rescue Nail arc
Dende heals everyone. Vegeta tells them the place Freeza is likely to go to interrogate Nail. They discover with Goku's ship they can actually get there faster than Freeza. They decide to use the time to train again and prepare for Freeza and the other Ginyu Force members. The gang along with Dende and Vegeta travel to the Freeza controlled planet. They beat Freeza there by an hour. Ginyu Force is already there. The gang decide to take risk in trying to defeat the remaining Ginyu before Freeza lands increase their chances by success. They do this covert stuff by destroying communication hub preventing them from warning Freeza and from Freeza contact them. They work their way up killing fodder until they eventually find remaining Ginyu Force. Maybe add two more members to make them more dangerous. Ginyu would be stronger than he is in canon. I would make him as stronger than Freeza's first form. They defeat some, but not all of them by the time Freeza arrives. Things being extremely bad Vegeta convincing Krillin to nearly kill him then has Dende heal him for another zenkai boost. Confident in his new power Vegeta claims he has become the Super Saiyan and challenges Freeza alone.
Goku and Ginyu still fight with all the body swapping it entails, and eventually Gohan and Krillin helping him get his body back and defeating Ginyu by returning him to his old battered body. Vegeta gets the upper hand on Freeza in his second form in a intense battle. Freeza transforms into his third form and turns it all around again. He is saved at the last minute by Goku. Dende and Bulma free Nail and he joins the fight. Nail defeats one of the remaining Ginyu Force to show us just how strong he is. Goku does his best to hold Freeza off, but even with his zenkai he still can't win. Everyone joins in the battle to stop Freeza. Dende finds the Dragon Balls, summons the dragon, and they make their wishes. First wish brings Piccolo back to life. The second wish is used to bring Chaozu back to life. Before they can use the last wish King Kai warns them to wish everyone except for Freeza and his underlings to Earth to save everyone otherwise Freeza will kill them all. Everyone is saved by the wish, but Freeza knows they are from Earth. He is pissed that he lost his chances at immortality.
Again, the heroes did better this time they still couldn't defeat Freeza. All King Kai did was buy them an extra year to train. Yamecha and Tien decide to stay at King Kai's to train even harder then get wished back just before Freeza arrives. Piccolo would train with Nail in Namkian warrior style. Goku, Gohan, and Krillin train together, while Vegeta trains on his own hoping to defeat avenge his defeat and become the Super Saiyan for real. It sets up the last arc with Freeza.
Freeza Invades Earth arc
They use the Earth Dragon Balls to bring everyone on Namek back to life. The Grand Elder time to transfer the DB power to the next Elder so that they can still have DBs and so the Nameks can still revived within the one year window. Freeza eventually comes to Earth in this third form. He brings more minions and maybe some of his father's elite guards who are the same race as Freeza, stronger than the Ginyu Force, but way weaker than Freeza. It gives everyone strong opponents to showcase how much they have improved. Yamecha and Tien get wished back to life. The final battle with Freeza starts. Piccolo, Nail, Vegeta, and Goku all try to take their shot at Freeza. Piccolo and Nail do a decent job against Freeza's third form, but ultimately loss, with Nail on death's door. With little options left Nail fuses with Piccolo to give him power boost and so he can live on in Piccolo. The new Piccolo beats the shit out of Freeza's third form in a major curbstomp battle. That prompts Freeza to transform into his final form.
Gohan and the others battle with the Cold's elite guard. They are in range of Freeza's second form it would at least make the other cast at least in the ballpark as Vegeta, Piccolo, and Goku. Freeza defeats Piccolo then Vegeta takes over. Vegeta puts up a good fight and forces Freeza use 40% of his power. He overpowers Vegeta, kills him, but not before Vegeta gives his big speech to Goku to convince him to avenge their race against Freeza. The big battle between Freeza and Goku commences pretty much the same way as it did on Namek, except Freeza uses 70% of his power to completely outmatch and outpace Goku. 10X Kaioken is the limit of Kaioken, but even that doesn't help Goku much. He goes for broke with Spirit Bomb. That fails like it did in the show. A pissed off Freeza injures some of Goku's friends, kills Krillin, and threatens Gohan, and Goku goes mad and becomes Super Saiyan.
Freeza doesn't try the whole planet destroying thing. He goes 100% max power. The two of them have their legendary battle only on Earth. The battle last so long that their powers start to tax their body until Goku can no longer hold SS form and Freeza's power drops rapidly. Freeza decides to go for broke to destroy Earth, but Goku tries to hold it back. Goku telepathically asks King Kai to have the Nameks bring the Dragon Balls together and use them to wish Freeza and him to another planet. The battle takes place at Yardach. The battle ends with Goku narrowly defeating Freeza through clever tactic, killing the tyrant, and saving Earth. Everyone uses the remaining two wishes to bring Krillin and Vegeta back (at Goku's insistence). Goku tells them he'll take the long way home, so to use the wish to bring Vegeta back (Goku sees good in him after his big confession and wants to give him another chance). Goku learn Instant Transmission, still is away in space for a long while. King Cold would knows Freeza was on Earth since he lent his son his elite guard he would eventually go to Earth to find out what is going on. It places him in a prime position to be the next major villain, sets up Future Trunks debut, and sets everything up for the Android/Cell arc to pretty much be the same without changing a whole lot except all the human characters are in the same ballpark as the Saiyans, which makes all of them balanced better, so that everyone can contribute and fight more in later arcs. Even Yamecha by that point could beat Freeza's second form.

King Piccolo was such an awesome villain, I often wish there was some way to rewrite the series so that he's still a formidable threat, even in the DBZ era. The amount of dread the guy inspired surely should be enough to justify making him equal to Nappa at least...@topic If it was up to me, at this moment I'd put the series order as Saiyans > Androids > Buu > Frieza > Beerus. So it's Gohan, alone on Earth, trying to stop Cell from absorbing 17 and 18, with no Goku to bail him out It is still possible to make King Piccolo a significant threat even within DBZ. Now his death in original dragon ball should definitely be the same, which will result in Piccolo's reincarnated birth. But there are two perspectives you need to decide on before you can carry on. 1. King Piccolo IS Piccolo, but reincarnated. So they are one in the same, which explains why Kami still exists when the demonic namekian passed away. 2. The reincarnation was not complete, so King Piccolo's soul ends up in Hell while a apart of him (Piccolo) lives on on Earth. When you picked one (I choose option 2), you simply have to create a reason to bring him back for whatever purpose you want him to serve in your rewrite. For me, lets just say during the namek saga that everything was going similar to the way it was in canon [Note: Again it depends how much you are willing to change from the canon source to make this hypothetical scenario work out. Since I do not know your specific plot scenarios, I will stick to canon just to get the point across.], but Piccolo felt like that Frieza's power is literally insurmountable after seeing him flex his muscles. Still dead in Otherworld, Piccolo orders King Kai to bring King Piccolo up [Note: Similar to what King Kai does with the Ginyu Force in anime filler.] where both father and son battle. Piccolo absorbs King Piccolo, gets revived, fuses with Nail, then heads out to challenge Frieza. When everything is all said and done (Only Goku is still able to defeat Frieza), we find out later that King Piccolo has been doing some training in Hell and has learned a way to plague with his sons mind if he fuses with him as the fusee. Over time Piccolo slowly becomes King Piccolo before fully "transforming" into his sire. The demon king then charades as the normal Piccolo to remain undercover. King Piccolo then fuses with Kami to become a powerful threat, and rechallenges Goku for vengeance [Note: Kami only fuses with Piccolo in the need to silence the growing evil within him, which the demon king has already accounted for and set up necessary precautions to prevent his inner influence.]. However King Piccolo is only as strong as Frieza, and is still inferior to the legendary super saiyan despite having the power of four namekians, which includes him. Defeated, he hangs low until he can make his revenge. And Dende becomes the new guardian, though it takes him a little bit of time to resurrect Shenron since he was not fully done with his dragon clan training. But if you want to add more spin to it, make sure that this happens during the three year time period before the androids that you've rewritten so that Lord Slug can debut. Make King Piccolo somehow absorb him, and become a incredible force that is superior to Frieza, whom up to this point was the strongest villain ever. And King Piccolo will be a great villain to surpass Frieza since he was a enemy who Goku has known longer than the space tyrant. It will be perfect, and makes the original dragon ball even more relevant since a nemesis has came back who is now the most powerful fighter ever. Back to the story, King Piccolo attempts for world domination again, but will do so only after he goes into space to visit new namek a year before the android arrive. Afraid of the demonic super namekian, the heroes (mainly Goku, Gohan, Krillin, or even Vegeta) chase after him. King Piccolo arrives first and manages to summon Porunga just when the heroes arrive to wish for immortality [Note: Instant Transmission will fail Goku in reaching New Namek faster since he fails to think of using King Kai's location as a basis.]. Piccolo then fights the heroes and dominates, but the remaining namekian elders uses the second wish of Porunga to seal him, but the seal itself will only last a year before it ruptures. The third wish restores the lost namekian lives as the heroes take the sealed Piccolo with them back to Earth, and train to surpass him when he reemerges. But unknown to everyone, King Piccolo gives birth to a sole mutated son on Earth before going to namek, where his purpose is to remain on standby just in case if he was defeated. But unknown to even King Piccolo when he was sealed, Dr. Gero kidnaps him and transforms his body into the basis for his creation that will later become "Cell". But thanks to his impressive namekian heritage, his mature form will still feel connected to Piccolo as his development will reach completion within the same hours of the android invasion. [Note: Piccolo being able to go from a infant to a "teenager" within three years is the reason why a modified bio-android will go from infancy to "perfection" in a single year.] [Note: No Future Trunks will occur in this AU. Time traveling antics get annoying after a while, so you can prevent all of that drama by literally preventing it from happening.] King Piccolo's emergence happens during the day the androids attack. [Note: All of the androids are weaker than Frieza, but having a renegade evil namekian will make things much more difficult.] Now lets just say that all androids were destroyed minus 16 and 18 since they were redeemable. Before the heroes can relax from a excruciating hard battle, King Piccolo's seal erupts on the lookout and immediately flies to the area of the worn out z-fighters. With no senzu beans left, they and the two androids remain on guard until the super namek arrives. After a intense stare-off and argument ensures, Gohan was the first to attack but is dealt with a harsh defeat despite his best efforts. But his will to save Piccolo no matter what transforms him into a super saiyan (the third one after Goku and Vegeta), but is still pounded into the ground. Everyone else is later defeated too, with a nearly unconscious, shirtless Goku dangling in the palms of the evil namek. But right before he kills him, Cell emerges and reveals he is his son born anew. Shocked at what happened to him, but glad he now understands on why he couldn't sense him until now, King Piccolo questions his current loyalty, but is pleased that he still sides with his father. Cell then convinces his father that instead of killing them, a world martial arts tournament shall be held to proclaim the strongest underneath the heavens. King Piccolo obliges, and announce the tournament at both the ZTV station and at King Furries palace. And that gives ten days for the heroes to train as both King Piccolo and Cell contemplate on their shared ambition of global conquering. The likes of both Cooler and Broly can happen, but these two will play a role on how they were defeated which can take multiple routes. When the tournament begins. the heroes (Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, Yamcha, and Tien) and Androids 16 and 18 arrive to challenge the father and son duo. Deciding on a two vs two matchup, both of the androids go in first. Piccolo easily manages to push 18 around, but 16 became close into killing off Cell with his self destruction sequence, but Piccolo saves his son before detonation occurred. 18 is then killed by Cell, with 16's body parts dotting all over the landscape before Cell crushes his head. With two allies dead, Gohan has enough and goes in alone, though Goku convinces his son that he is helping him. With both father and sons battling each other, Gohan fights against Cell and are equals in every way, which is impressive since they are already stronger than Frieza, barely. But King Piccolo still pushes Goku around, and has him where he wants him most of the time. However the psychological aspects begins to plague Gohan, with his lost mentor and the androids deaths overriding his will to fight despite his life and everyone else being on the line. Cell then slowly torments Gohan, and is crushed in his arms as Goku is incapable of reaching him thanks to Piccolo. The demon king then begins to beat on Goku, and once again has his battered body in his hands. Piccolo then kills Goku, which causes Gohan to have regret of not saving his father while a highly distorted piece of memory of Piccolo killing Goku during the battle of Raditz infecting his mind. Gohan then becomes a super saiyan 2, which frees him from Cell as he prepares to kill both for their inequities. Gohan first beats down Cell effortless, and seemingly kills him with a super kamehameha. Stunned, Piccolo fights against Gohan, but is no match for the ascended saiyan hybrid as he gets beaten. Plagued of flashbacks of Kid Goku defeating him and his "son's" memories of being Gohan's teacher, King Piccolo vows to not lose and will make the boy pay for his transgressions. But Gohan still beats him down, which causes the king to lose his mind and simply see the child as Kid Goku reincarnated. But eventually the immortal is lay in a crater with Gohan walking ominously to him, and is terrified of him beyond reasoning. But unknown to everyone, Cell survives and goes to his father since he has received a little zenkai boost. Seeing a new chance at victory, King Piccolo fuses with Cell to increase his power tremendously, and is almost comparable to the young saiyan. And round 2 starts. Despite the magnificent increase and now matching Gohan, Piccolo slowly begins to suffer from unforeseen complications since Cell is not entirely namekian. His complicated makeup that consists of human, saiyan, and frost demon cells begins to mutate him in both mind and body. Soon his body begins to swell and appears like he is about to explode, but it is just the outworld expression of a new battle raging. And it is a battle inside of his mind. Awakened from the strange phenomenon within his body, the likes of Piccolo, Nail, and Kami attempt to gain dominance against King Piccolo and Cell. Slug is just the middle man who fights for himself. And since they all now share the same body, their power is equal with the forces of good winning out in the end. Thanks to this, the outside of Piccolo's body misfires in the explosion to reveal the regular ol' good Piccolo in its wake as Cell is expunged from him. Piccolo then kills Cell, and manages to prove to young Gohan that he is the real deal, which makes the young boy break down with tears of joy. And the Earth is restored with the evil of King Piccolo put to rest. Goku remains dead, and peace settles for the next seven years. Until the Buu saga begins. Here King Piccolo will briefly influence the namek when he gets majinized, but will return to normal thanks to the events surrounding the arc. I'll leave it up to you if you want to continue this scenario.

Son Pan & Xeno BlackMaybe you guys could put the story sections in Spoilers. Not because they spoil anything, but because they make those posts ridiculously huge. Putting them in Spoilers would make it easier to scroll through the page and make easier to read them too since you could open one spoiler, read that section, close it, and then open the next section's spoiler.

I put spoiler tags to make it more manageable.
To continue with my post I think keeping Freeza in the same placement he was before still works, this way King Cold just comes to Earth on his own and leaves Cooler to run their empire on their home planet. This way it leaves Cooler alive to come back as a bigger threat. Instead of Golden Freeza thing we could get a Cooler who trained for 30 years and keeps pace with the good guys then comes to Earth for revenge.
