It's Super what do you expect Yet another recycled idea from GT, which failed miserably. It's becoming more and more obvious that Toei and Toriyama are completely out of ideas and are trying desperately to put up some kind of story just to keep their cash cow, also known as Super, running.

I reckon they have run out of ideas and just made up a silly name to illustrate (read: hype) the fact that Goku has finally reached the same level as the GoD.

In SSJ4 Goku vs Baby's fight, Baby did a Revenge Death Bomb/Ball and threw it at Goku. It kinda looked like he was going to die from it just like in Super, but he absorbed the energy instead, again just like in Super. The only difference is that he didn't ascend into a new fake-ass form which doesn't make the slightest of sense. How Goku absorbed the Spirit Bomb twice is obvious I think, but in-universe it makes 0 sense. Heck why didn't Kid Buu absorb the Spirit Bomb and go Ultra Beyond Instinct Extinct Super Duper Beyond God Beyond Zeno?
P.S. They build up this new Goku form for months, and now that it's finally here, it's an absorption of the Spirit Bomb that makes you an Ultimate Gohan?

Which is a shame, since that small part of the Baby saga and the end of the Shadow Dragons are the only parts of GT I enjoyed. It makes me a little sick to even get near defending Super, but alignment is a big reason why those two instances aren't the same. The Spirit Bomb explicitly can't harm the pure of heart so there was no way it was going to kill Goku. Kid Buu was almost pure evil, so there was no way in hell he could have absorbed the Spirit Bomb's power without dying the same way. Although there is an ancient fanfic built on that premise I could sell you. I'm with you and Jim that the form seems underwhelming, but after the creative genius of 'Super Saiyan but blue' it was clear there wasn't going to be brain racking about it. And if they were going to copy a form, Mystic is the best one. (But I can't speak about it for shit since I don't watch Super. It's making me wonder why he didn't try absorbing the power of the Spirit Bomb against Vegeta. Or Frieza. Or Buu. Like how no one tried learning the Mafuba to defeat the Saiyans. Or the Androids. Or Buu)

At least they're explaining the form. The logic behind how it works makes sense, if you can move instinctively without thinking, you move faster, therefore the force of your punches is stronger and you're able to dodge and react without wasting time thinking about what to do.
What I don't like is the lack of explanation of how exactly Goku got the form. Basically they said he absorbed a Spirit Bomb and that powered the form, and that the Spirit Bomb itself unlocked and fueled a form that was already within Goku's potential, but I don't see how absorbing a Spirit Bomb can "power" someone into a state where they move without thinking. I mean absorbing power can make you stronger but not grant you new skills/abilities.

I did joke about it on the Super episode thread but it's basically a rip off of Narutos Sage Mode- Funny new eyes, gained by absorbing spirit energy, gains new senses that allow him to fight an opponent that was previously beyond him, and gains a whole new fighting style to boot. It's just cranked up to 11 since Dragon ball is in a completely different league compared to even the greatest Naruto feats.

Or Buu) I can agree on that concept, but it doesn't sound logical to me. It was executed once again prior to Super, in Movie 7 Super Android 13! and this is a total of third time I see it. If we go by that idea, then if someone like Jiren, who's not evil (probably), got hit by the Spirit Bomb, he would've went Ultra Extinct and surpassed Daishinkan probably. Also, a little bit off-topic, maybe it's biased, maybe not, but all of the other universes' power levels don't make sense to me. In GT it at least kinda made sense, with Baby invading people's bodies and making them stronger with absorbing energy. But here they are supposed to be leagues above those levels, it's just unreal. At least they're explaining the form. The logic behind how it works makes sense, if you can move instinctively without thinking, you move faster, therefore the force of your punches is stronger and you're able to dodge and react without wasting time thinking about what to do. I mean absorbing power can make you stronger but not grant you new skills/abilities. It's also supposed to draw out all of your potential. This way of doing it would've been faster than Old Kai's ritual, and would've needed to wait 24 hours for it. When the tournament ends, and they go back to Earth, Goku should just Spirit Bomb the entire cast until they are stronger than Daishinkan xD.

I don't think Ultra Instinct by itself is a transformation. Goku's change in appearance could be easily explained by the fact that he absorbed a friggin' Spirit Bomb and it powered his body like a battery, and that powerup unlocked the Ultra Instinct technique. Also Whis had to observe Goku very carefully before he realised what was happening, which implies that Ultra Instinct alone doesn't change appearance.
Of course even if I'm right it won't matter in a few years because they keep f****** retconning stuff like this.
