I understand a higher gravity in each new round in the tournament increases the thrill for the new round and increases some tension. I still don't understand why the organizers (the Vargas, the Namekians, the Supreme Kais) thought about that at all. "Let's host a big tournament with all the strongest fighters from all the universes" "Yeah, that sounds epic. Let's do it." "And, let us increase the gravitiy of the ring in each round." "Yeah, .... what? Why?" Unlike DBS, where they mention that the arena is made of Katchin, but later on it has no meaning to the plot anymore, we know that the increase of the gravitiy on the ring in DBM has some meaning to the participants. We have many pages mentioning the gravitiy on the ring and I admit it, those are alot mentions. Vargas As a weapon by Eleim Participants round 1 Participants round 2 Participants round 3 I understand that Salagir would include that gimmick in DBM for fun and because it's cool. It would be even more badass to win against an opponent while fighting in high gravity. But, what should be the in-universe explanation for the Vargas to inplement this gimmick in the first place and increase the gravity every round?
Unless I overlooked something in the novelization.

Unless I overlooked something in the novelization. It wouldn't surprise me if this was an offscreen idea from Vegito or someone to the Vargas just to help spice things up for himself. Someone like Vegito would doubtless see himself in the final round anyway, so why not increase the challenge a little bit? Who knows, maybe if someone could also casually walk around in the final gravity setting he might have some fun for once.

I guess it's just to force the weaker fighters to either get their shit on faster (fight seriously and not play games in the lower gravity) or to "help" the fights eliminate the weaklings quicker if they really can't handle the gravity but can dodge and run away like a tom and jerry cartoon.
Speeds up the process and forces fighters to draw out more power instead of "holding back for when the fight gets more intense."

I've always wondered what the point of increasing gravity because no one has lost so far due to the strain. Most of the weaker contestants were taken out pretty quickly anyway. I agree with The Retro Kakarotto that it was probably just a way so that the fighters would cut to the chase and not hold back as much. I'm curious if they would keep increasing it since 100,000x and 1 millionx gravity seem way too much for any DBZ character to handle.

Jokes aside, if the gravity were to increase 10x by round 4, the only notable combatant noting the gravity we'd see is Uub since he already had an issue with his fight against Majin Buu, and that one was 1000x if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise, Vegeta V Cell, Vegeta would've just said that it's a nice challenge since in the anime, last I check he went to 500x Earth's Gravity, but not 1000x, yet his match with Kakarotto was a breeze. Cell on the otherhand I'm a bit confused about, in U17, unless he found the HTC, how was it that he had access to gravity training? XXI And Buu, well, something other than gravity will factor in here. Son Bra and Gast I have no idea at all, but my prediction is that the gravity decreases by their match because of a scenario similar to the minicomic. Here we get a glimpse of Gast's physical limits but then he curbstomps Bra with his 'mekian Magic. "Strength isn't everything."

With all that said and done gravity really hasn't had much of an impact in fights beyond a few comedic moments and that one guy increasing the gravity against Bra. Feels like a mostly forgotten/pointless feature.

Cell has Freeza's cells and thus can travel in space without ships or other vehicles. He could easily locate a planet like Jupiter or even some sort of black hole to train. U13 Saiyans likely did the same, except they actually needed to use space pokeballs. The fact they did not use "chambers" like those Bulma created was referenced by Raditz training with Kakarotto "this planet has twice the Gravity of Planet Vegeta, you should be able to stand it".

In the beginning you could say it was necessary to hold people up there on that globe-ring,- I mean, when they jump to high they would fall down (I know there is not ring-out but it would be awkward). 100G is already a quite a number, but still rational by DB-standards. But after switching to the flat ring I say they should stay at 1000G, rising it would be ridiculous, IMO. The fighters now are almost even matched, so there is no need to hinder them too much, right? -> If the tournament resumes, of course.

I think the gravity does limit the destruction of their attacks. Considering that everyone at SSJ2 tier is able to destroy planets with mere ki balls, it might be a smart idea to do something against that. Yes, they have the barrier to protect the spectators, but if someone like Broly decides to blow up the ring with his uncontrolled energy, the whole asteroid would be smashed. In that case the barrier wouldn't do any good.
Maybe the gravity consumes the biggest part of any shot the make, so it is not that dangerous as it would be in a 1 G area.

I'd say it gives us a good measure of the strength of opponents. Especially at the beginning we had no idea what all these original characters and different incarnations of familiar ones could do. If they were struggling even in the first round when it was only 10x gravity we knew they were unlikely to progress further. Now look at the 4th round- Everyone there is at least a SS2 in power (With the exception of XXI's magician form, but he has hax so it hardly counts)
I think once we get to the next round it won't multiply again because at 10000x normal earth gravity is a real stretch. Surely everyone there would have to powerup/transform just so they could stand and fight effectively

Replacement Vargas Announcer: "Okay! The gravity is now set to 10000x normal gravity! Our next match is between U18's Son Goku and U18's Uub!" *Goku and Uub jump into the ring* Vargas: "Oh no! Uub has been crushed by the gravity! Goku wins by default! The next match will be U17 Cell vs U18 Vegeta!" *Cell and Vegeta hop into the ring and start fighting very slowly* Vargas: "Oh no! Vegeta wasn't able to dodge Cell's Kienzan in time because he was so slowed by the increased gravity!" With all of this done in like...5 pages or something. *Cue angry fans at being robbed of thrilling fights*

Goku "Probably should use that Kaio-ken before we enter the ring Uub" Uub "Trying to wear me down even before we start master? Thats loser talk" *Uub becomes a pile of goop on the ground* Goku "Nooooooo...... I REALLY wanted to fight him.........Oh and he's dead" Piccolo "Relax, he can get resurrected at the end of the tournament" Goku: "But look at him now, just a pile of blood-coloured soup on the ground* *Goku's stomach starts rumbling* Piccolo "Are... Are the remains of Uub making you hungry???" Goku: "Are they not making you hungry?"

gravity has been reset.
I personally wonder what the max gravity of each guy is their limit.

I guess they decided they ran as far as they could with the gravity gimmick. Personally I don’t mind getting rid of it.

I'm indifferent to the use or removal of the gravity. It rarely affected any of the matches, but it did lead to an amusing reaction or two from the weaker universes. The definition of inoffensive.

The definition of inoffensive. that is true. pretty funny. and the 10,000x gravity was a good joke on cell vs gast in a minicomic. I'm still wondering what the max gravity each guy could withstand.
