Remember, this Babadi is from a universe where there was no Cell arc. Unless this gets contradicted in a future U11 special that means

- no Android 16 sacrifice.
- no SSJ2 Gohan transformation
- much weaker Gohan in his universe.

Now obviously Cell knew otherwise. But didn't say anything because
1. He was faking being possessed, which we know with hindsight
2. He seemed to REALLY want a rematch with a Gohan, fixing on U16's version specifically

There were also Kakarotto and Nappa who by all means should know how to read energy.

I also almost forgot they got themselves slammed by Gohan inside their own room.

Part 2 will cover Chapters 61 and 63.

So Chapter 61 continues after a special chapter and resumes right where Chapter 59 left off. Piccolo continues to fight the Frost Demons while the various other universes continue to scatter and intermingle further and further.

The entire process is actually very well done as a whole. I made an entire thread with some maps about it here.

Mapping The Rebellion

Some fighting continues and then on page 1401 this happens.


So Phipsil’s nanobots can counter Dabura’s magical spit?

H-how did that happen? Not really bashing on this, more just speculating.

I suppose one can presume that the nanobots are part of an attempt by U19 to counter their carbonite problem, as it is a material that transforms anything it touches into more of itself, much like how Dabura’s spit turns you into stone. That I’m okay with. I’m just more curious as to how it could work here but NOT work on carbonite.

The nanobots themselves should be turning to stone as well, along with her armor and her own flesh and blood, much like how carbonite would turn the nanobots and everything else into carbonite. By what means is Phipsil getting un-stoned here? I don’t suppose it’s really important and we’re supposed to just wave our hands and accept “magic tiny little robots” as the answer.



So then we cut back to page 1403, where we’re back to Piccolo. Don’t mind me saving this page for later, I’m sure it won’t come up again.


Piccolo continues fighting and says that handling all three Frost Demons on his own at the same time is a bit too much for him. I am quite curious that only one Piccolo is actually here. Both Gohans look the same and think the same, to the point that they know what the other one is thinking despite leading the different lives they’ve had. If anything the divergence between Piccolos would be even LESS than the ones between the Gohans. They should both be thinking the same thing, so both Piccolos should be up here right now trying to avenge the Namekian race.

Does U16 Piccolo just not care anymore? Why is he content beating up random Majin audience members when U18 Piccolo is trying to settle an old score on Frieza? The same score he should have? This should NOT be a 3v1. This should be a 3v2 with all three Frost Demons vs. both Piccolos, that turns into a 3v3 once the Kaioshin paralyzes Coldyu.

We then cutaway to the U9 apartment, where we see Old Kai doing the Potential Unlocking ritual on Raditz. Some Frieza soldiers barge in and get promptly defeated, followed by Sauza and Jeice noticing that no one from U9 is in the chaos, so they must still be inside and Sauza wants revenge on Old Man Krillin. Jeice tags along because he wants to support French Spaceman with his Australian Spaceman accent I guess.


Well at least it’s better than killing random people JUST BECAUSE.

So then Piccolo is still fighting Cooler and Frieza and then interestingly enough we get this tidbit of a line from Frieza on P 1411


“The mission first! Death to the Kaioshin!”

…what?

I thought the mission was CONTROL ALL THE UNIVERSES. Now sure, killing the Kaioshin who are present would be a logical step to that in the current situation, but that was NOT the mission!

I think Piccolo punched Frieza in the head one too many times.

If the mission was “Kill the Kaioshin” there was a grand opportunity on page 1342.


Dabura of all people too, one of Babadi’s most trusted minions, was at best using them as hostages. If the goal was to kill him, he could’ve just done it immediately. He’s clearly not concerned about fighting the Kaioshin if need be (as we saw when he taunted them about not being so tough without South Kai).

So Frieza suddenly declaring the mission is to “Kill the Kaioshin” is out of nowhere.

So then we get…page 1412.


So first thing’s first. It looks very cool. Makes swiss cheese out of Frieza and Cooler to a lesser extent over the next few pages, Cooler punches Piccolo into the stands…and then Piccolo says he’s completely exhausted only for U16 Piccolo to swoop in and effortlessly kill Cooler on p 1417.


Don’t mind me I’m just saving this, I’m sure it won’t come up again later.

Let’s go back to Piccolo’s technique for the moment. It is, in essence, a double Special Beam Cannon that Piccolo can change the direction of, so it’s like he combined his own technique with Yamcha’s Spirit Ball
.

What’s more, Piccolo used all the energy he had for this technique, and even then it was only 50% effective and only got rid of Frieza. Why in the world did Piccolo have to push himself so far? There has been zero indication that Frieza and Cooler have increased in power level so much, even with a Majin boost, that would put them on Piccolo’s level in the first place. What U16 Piccolo just did should’ve been what happened to Cooler and Frieza a chapter ago. Cold is the only exception to this but it’s not like Piccolo fought him long enough to use up any substantial amount of energy that would soften him up to the point Frieza and Cooler could pose a threat.

So now we lead into Chapter 63.

The first few pages serve to remind us that the other half of the cast is still in space and still hopelessly lost. We get some nice dialogue between the two Vegetas but their catfight never happens.

Oh look page 1438.


Don’t mind me just saving this for later, sure it won’t pop up again.

Fights continue, nothing much to really say here. Gohan and Cell are still going at it, Nappa is bullying Videl and U18 Bra (who isn’t showing any of that phenomenal strength anymore), and then Gohan stops fighting Cell and goes to fight Nappa while Cell fights one of the Heliors.

Random Vargas whistles, King Piccolo dies.

I did admittedly think this was a funny little bit, having an epic fail at whistling while trying to exploit the big Namekian weakness. Also a potential missed opportunity as well. By this point in the fighting both U16 and U18 Piccolo aren’t actively fighting. Imagine if this little Vargas, in an attempt to save a god, whistles and distracts King Piccolo, also ends up doing some harm in the process by having the GOOD Piccolos also get momentarily paralyzed!

You could even have it so that this is how Frieza and Cooler are able to deal some damage to Piccolo at all! But more on that later.

Cell zenkais, Cold transforms, #17 reveals himself and he has also apparently just been killing random audience members for funsies. Much like the Ginyu Force being wasted, now someone stronger than even Frieza is being wasted here.

Bardock gets a vision that Gohan’s about to pop in and kill Babadi, having figured out that the dimension’s been shifted a bit so he uses the Buu Saga trick of powering up enough to break through.

Then we cut from that to U9 out of nowhere as they casually deal with Jeice and Sauza. I honestly don’t even know if they got killed or not since this entire part of the chapter is played for laughs. This bit ends with a cliffhanger as a Cell Jr appears behind Tien and then ends with a comedic page of the Mary Sue character freaking out over lunch.

I’m not against such an ending, even DBZ threw in an occasional humorous panel at times of seriousness so this one is a-okay in my book.

Damn, this was top tier stuff. I hope to see more and just impressed with the work.
