This chapter is admittedly really fun to read, but it has many issues that drag it down.
1- Buu has become WAY too overpowered for the narrative.
Buu has always been an overpowered character, it's what made him so popular after all, but the difference between now and then is that Buu used to have limits. The rivalry with Vegetto and Gast, ESPECIALLY with the former gave Buu 2 opponents that could stop him if he went rogue. His power level had its limits, SSJ Vegetto, Bra and Gohan could hold him off in space. SSJ3 Gotenks after the powerup matched his own. And more importantly, his magic was delegated to basic stuff like breaking machines, teleporting out of nowhere and the simple powerups he gave to the cast. He is still arguably the strongest one in the tournament, dont get me wrong, but it wasn't so in your face as it is now. Now Buu can seemingly split infinitely (god pray that his strength is split between them). He kills Gast super easily (yes, he laid a trap, still WAY too easy). Vegetto SSJ3 (remember when he was a big deal) and the entire multiverse are nothing to him. AND HE IS HOLDING BACK. He could easily oneshot 90% of the fighters in the multiverse yet he fucks around with them, mocking them and not even using whatever OP magic he even has.
The story literally calls him an all-powerful god.
2- Everyone's efforts are pointless.
Nobody here is doing any damage to Buu at all. He never gets serious or even slightly concerned. U13 fights Buu at full strength and all they accomplish is getting toyed with. Goku and Vegeta look like they are on to something by copying Vegetto's technique, but all we get is one page of both of them killing a few clones and that's it. Every other universe shoots lasers at Buu like that would ever work.
You could start off this chapter with Vegetto's final attack and nothing would change.
3- Where are all the universes? U1, U3, U8, U9, and U14 are never shown fighting. Not that they could do much, but there is not even an attempt to make them fight for themselves.
So, i took it upon myself to try and make a different, better version of this chapter.
Additionally i will not make it more than 23 pages long. Asura is a human working during his free time after all.
4- The ending. "for some reason only universe 1 beings can operate interuniversal travel" so fucking bullshit lmao
Let's begin: Page 1: Unchanged.
Page 2: Gast prepares to do a spell... then a Micro Buu comes out of his clothing. "No you don't!", the micro copy says the moment Gast becomes aware of its presence, and Teleports him to space, millions of kilometers away from the arena. Breathing in space is no problem for him, but he wont be getting back for a long time.
Page 3-4: Page 2040 and 2041, but Buu's dialogue is different. "Gast was the only one that concerned me, so I had play a little dirty against him." "Oh but don't worry, I promise to fight the rest of you fair and square!"
Pages 5 to 8: pages 2043, 2044, 2045, 2046
Page 9: We see Heloits hold off Buu. Then we jump to U8, where a copy of Buu instantly appears behind Frieza and Cooler. "Peekaboo!", he exclaims, before knocking them both out with a single punch. Suddenly, a big pointy tail impales him from behind. Buu is not concerned.
Page 10: Cuts to 16 and Trunks holding off the clones. We then go back to U8's space. Buu is suspended in the air after being impaled, but never without the smug expression in his face. "Come on..." he starts to say, while Ginyu in his giant augmentation form screams "Change!".
Page 11: Buu finishes his sentence: "... is this all everybody's got?!?!". He screams, as a big page shows off the current state of Buu's rampage: * U8: With a simple swipe of his hand, Buu completely blows Ginyu and his Change Beam away. * U12: The Buu army quickly gains an edge on Trunks and 16 and begins beating them up. * Center of the arena: Bardock, King Piccolo and 17 appear grabbed by giant tentacles. They never stood a chance. * U16/18: The two Gotenks and Gohan holding off the endless army of Buu clones. * High above the arena: Vegetto SSJ2 surrounded by small Buu heads flying towards him from every direction attempting to absorb him, while a Big Buu trades blows with him.
Pages 12: Page 2046
Pages 13: Goku clears a big group of Buus in his space. Vegeta goes off to save Trunks and 16.
Pages 14: Beaten up and barely standing, U13 Kakarotto and Vegeta notice what their counterparts are doing. "That technique... if that other me can do it...", Emperor Vegeta says to himself. "...then so can I!" says Kakarotto, finishing his sentence and then disintegrating his opponent, while U13 Vegeta does the same.
Pages 15-16: Pages 2055-2056
Page 17: The Kaioshins struggle against Buu, but suddenly a Big Buu comes crashing down from above, and instantly after Vegetto teleports in and erases the group of Buus torturing the Kais. "I see, the others are keeping up. In that case!"
Page 18: Page 2052, but Vegetto's dialogue is different: "We can finish this, HERE AND NOW!"
Page 19: Vegetto's massive attack disintegrates every single Buu. Not just those in the Stadium, but also inside the planet, inside the dorms and even the nearby Gas decorations.
Page 20: Page 2057, but Buu's last dialogue is different: "Poor creatures, they catch me off guard with a pair of surprises and they think they've won." "I've already spread parts of me everywhere throughout the universe, what could you do against..."
Page 21: Page 2058. "the smartest and most powerful creature alive?"
Page 22: Page 2059
Page 23: Buu appears in the center of the arena, all his copies gone. In an instant, his confidence plummets to the ground as the being gets outsmarted for the first time in decades. "What?!?!" he exclaims. From another universe (therefore unbeknownst to Buu), the Vargas upgraded their technology, allowing them to teleport every particle coming from another universe anywhere they want. Obviously, they bring back Gast to the arena.
Page 24: Buu is now surrounded by every fighter of every universe at their full power. With his weaknesses exposed and without any backups of himself, Buu finds himself getting serious for the first time in a long time. "Damn you...!!!" he screams, smoke starting to come out of his head...
And now it can end however you want. Another full chapter of Buu's last ditch effort to kill everyone in the multiverse, one page of him being instantly disintegrated by all the fighters around, Gast bsing him for good, him surrendering, etc. Pick one.

I like this re-write. It manages to keep the core of what we got unchanged, but it does make certain things more bearable. Teleporting Gast away still keeps him as an option to use later. Vargas using their technology to bring him back to disable Buu’s splitting and pull all his pieces together is the best route to go. That makes him vulnerable again.

Another full chapter of Buu's last ditch effort to kill everyone in the multiverse, one page of him being instantly disintegrated by all the fighters around, Gast bsing him for good, him surrendering, etc. Pick one. 1 - True that, though I don't mind it entirely. This Buu use to have limits but that's cause he didn't absorb millions of beings and gain so much knowledge and different abilities. Becoming some godlike troll is actually pretty realistic possibility for someone like Buu and it contrasts nicely with the insane mindless Kid Buu. Plus Buu did seem weaker early in DBM but it's possible that it's because he was toying with everyone and only Gast ever managed to give him a legitimate scare. Gast is a lot weaker than Buu if SSJ3 Vegeta can make Gast flinch so I can see Buu being able to quickly kill Gast with a trap if Gast couldn't raise his guard in time. I did wish we did get to see Buu actually get defeated in a satisfying way though, he did seem too "unbeatable".
2 - Yeah, I feel like that should have actually peeled off Buu's power, especially Vegetto's move. Gotenks could have did stuff too if he wasn't such a jobber. U13 never had a prayer though. U13 Vegeta is clearly a lot weaker and/or is worse at energy techniques than U18 Vegeta if U18 Vegeta can use Majin Punisher and U13 Vegeta cannot but that's to be expected. I would love to see more interaction with fighters of different universes, like Goku and Vegeta clearing U18's space and going to help the Heliotes or Trunks/#16 (Trunks and #16 could use the help).
3 - That probably would make the chapters longer though I guess it'd be a bit of fun to see Buu troll gods again. U9 I am pretty sure Buu was ignoring because he wanted to see Radtiz get his powerup (couldn't Buu just powerup Raditz into Mystic Raditz with ease himself? He did absorb the Old Kai.) U3 and U8 didn't have a prayer and is really seeing Frieza get humiliated for the 1000th time really all that much fun? (See, in DBS it's refreshing to see Frieza get beaten and humiliated at least but in DBM where Frieza doesn't have a shot at being an important villain, not really).
4 - Yeah, #4 is kind of bullshit, but it does line up with only U1 out of infinite worlds having multiversal travel (which is BS but oh well, the entire multiverse could get thrown into chaos if there were more universes with time travel and U4 Buu or someone like that did get a hold of that power).
I think we are jumping the gun. It's possible that Buu will come back still. All he would have to do is absorb a U1 Varga and I think it would anchor him into U0 (Universe of the DBM Tournament of course) in theory, which means that some pieces of Buu could still be present. Other options include Dai Kaio deciding to bring him back (would be crazy but Buu did get to his head pretty good) and Uub. It's also probable that if this is the case then this is the end for Buu making a scene and he goes back in hiding (since he can hide himself pretty good from beings like Gast).

The problem with how this all played out was that there needed to be a way to negate Buu's ability to split itself apart. When Gast was taken out the writers destroyed the only other good guy who has magic that could have negated that advantage. That left the only way to really negate Buu's advantage is to attack all his pieces at once. Vegetto tried to do that but with his blasts being reduced in size to prevent friendly fire he had to rely on hitting pieces he could see. I have two solutions I think might have fixed this problem and led to a more satisfying conclusion.
First Solution: Uub should have learned magic sooner. Way back before the third round when U4 Buu taught Uub a bit of magic to fight off U11 Buu, is when Uub learned the basics of magic. If Uub learned proper magic there, rather than just how to deflect Buu's transmutation beam it wouldn't require Uub to learn magic from Buu later. When Gast was taken out the heroes would have still had a magic user in Uub to help out. Why is this important if Uub has magic that means the Vargas' recording of Babidi's magic words would give Uub the ability to use the sealing spell.
It takes time for Buu to break out of the seal. He's not automatically immune to it. That means as soon as Uub casts the spell every piece of Buu is pulled back into one place and forced into the shell. There would be no hidden pieces Buu could hide. Everything is pulled toward Uub as Buu is encased into a new shell. With Buu in one place SS3 Vegetto can unleash a massive attack strong enough to kill Buu. Before Buu can even free himself every last trace of him would be killed. It would still require a group effort to hold Buu off. The Vargas would still get to be the heroes, because they have Babidi's spell on recording. Uub being taught how to magic by Buu leading to his downfall fits all the other former villains getting their egos broken before their defeat. Buu teaching Uub magic to liven up his match with U11 Buu for person entertainment purposes has a kramatic justisce to it.
Buu playing God and toying with everyone's lives would be the thing to bring him down. He never thought that Uub would learn Bibidi's sealing spell.
Second Soultion: Vargas make a smaller device that teleports a Namek and the Dragon Balls away to Universe 1. While the fight is going on we can see the Vargas frantically patch up multiverse teleporter. Buu thinks it's pointless. Since it is a smaller and cruder version of their main one it won't have all the features as the main one. For example, the smaller one can't locate all of Buu's pieces and has to be pointed at the person it wishes to send to a new universe. With several copies running around Buu knows they cannot use it to get rid all of him at once. When he arrogantly tells the Vargas that we see them point it at a Namek with all the Dragon Balls. As soon as the U1 Namek and Dragon Balls get sent away Vegetto releases a huge explosion.
Before Buu has time to react the blast engulfs him, the arena, and the whole galaxy, destroying everything. Every last bit of Buu gets destroyed in the blast. It makes sense. Buu certainly wouldn't have thought Vegetto would attack that way, because it would be suicide. It would destroy the Vargas, their technology, and the Dragon Balls. Vegetto would be condemning all of them to permeant death in a dead universe. The Vargas sending someone back to their home universe with Dragon Balls it allows them to travel back to U0 with the Dragon Balls and using the wishes to restore everything except Buu. It's a plan Buu didn't think the Vargas could pull off. It would require Vegetto to have killed everyone of course just to be sure he killed Buu. It could create some tensions with other characters who might have felt Vegetto went nuclear too fast. It might even feed Vegetto's arrogance, since he would be the reason Buu was killed in the end and make him surer of his own power.
Those are just two ways I thought of to negate Buu's splitting and catch him off guard. Both involve Vargas and Vegetto playing key roles into killing Buu. I think more people would find those ends for Buu more favorable. Those defeats could have been negated had Buu used his magic to its full potential, which falls back on his own arrogance.

No it would not be fun, it has been and would be further exhausting. Tedious. People are quick to write essays on the problems with Bra and Salagir's bias for her, but Zen Buu is infinitely worse in every regard. He has constantly throughout this story been a trolling "lol" character who can do anything and everything he wants and always ends up looking good at the expense of everyone else. He never faces any actual setbacks, and every single "defeat" is always downplayed or ignored when those rare moments happen. Zen Buu gets away with stuff no other character would be caught dead being able to do and the fanbase here just shrugs and goes "oh well he's just cool" and it has been grating for actual years now. We couldn't get a cool chapter of Zen Buu fighting XXI and actually facing a real loss he'd gasp might get upset by, our priority is to make sure he looks cool over silly things like build up XXI or anything. So just rush the fight and get an entire chapter dedicated to Zen Buu making the DBM roster look like idiots while he flexes over them only to "lose" to a blatant Deus Ex Machina and not even care about it cause hey he's still just so cool right? He's the biggest Mary Sue in this entire story. Even Broly would blush.

He's the biggest Mary Sue in this entire story. Even Broly would blush. I kind of posted this before I was sure if it's over or not but I think it is now and yeah, disappointing, very much so!
I would have rather see Buu get pwned in a far more dramatic way if not to at least see Buu's reaction. I didn't think it'd be that much fun, only mildly so, besides, technically Buu did troll U1 South Kai once already before Gast made him his bitch so we don't really need more of Buu trolling U1.
Alternatively if we didn't get a Buu vs Multiverse it would have been sick to see an epic magic duel between Buu and XXI with XXI edging out a win since when it comes to magic you only need the right spells to win. Babidi is a far weaker magician than Buu on magic but Babidi could seal Buu away with all sorts of spells. Gast could contain Buu as well and XXI could seal Buu too it seems (though it was temporary, XXI could have just blasted Buu while he was trapped and win).
I don't really consider Broly a sue/stu. He might be broken in terms of invincibility but he is totally much more beatable than Zen Buu, who is the biggest Sue in DBM by far. Plus Broly is a mindless beast, hardly a capable fighter, he just destroys like Kid Buu. Broly does get wanked by Salagir, as does Bra, but I think you have a point in that Buu got wanked the hardest (even if I can stomach him more than the other two but still).
I really did like Buu's chaotic and trolley personality but I did wish myself it was met with some level of karma and punishment only fitting for someone like Zen Buu in order for it to be actually satisfying. That's why we liked Zen Buu before but now it's kind of just crap now because Buu got to do all that trolling and no real repercussions? I mean, U13 Vegeta's defeat was satisfying, hell, even Cell's defeat against Vegeta was more satisfying than the defeats Buu got recently (against XXI in the tourney and against the Vargas sending him home). Feels like a repeat of how not satisfying the Majin Bra stuff was. I am not sure what's happened to the writing as of late but it's definitely gone down in quality.

Nothing wrong with that but finding him grating for actual years requires more patience than most people could have. I still struggle to think of any character in any story where I can be that patient for to be honest. I think it would make for an even worse experience if other people liking a character and wanting to see more of them causes me frustration.

I still care enough to want to see how this tournament ends. It just helps after reading a whole chapter of Zen Buu wanking to express my let's say "disappointment" about the character rather than just say nothing and pretend I eat this up fully.

I'm not sure what to tell you if you've been frustrated by other people liking this character. I recall you don't like most of the OCs, most of the headcanon chosen for the story, and several ideas introduced early on. You're still here so I suppose you still haven't reached your limit. I'm just saying I would struggle to read any story of I felt that way about it for years. Chaotic characters usually get away with more than a typical villain. It helps when they're more of a trickster and not intending to cause any permanent damage. He was guilty of wanting to take over to have his own side tournament, everyone thought he was contained by Grand Kaioshin, and they sent him home when they found out he was free the whole time.

The thing I think most people don't realize, is that basically everything that's making him OP in DBM, was already baked into him in Z. You can't do any real damage to him unless you're another Buu, so you can't pummel him into submission, and he has infinite stamina like an android. Thus your choices is basically to seal him up, utterly and totally annihilate him from existence, or lose. The Buu we see here is just one that had the clever idea to spread itself around to make sure he survives. He is a very tough character to handle, and gets worse the moment you give him a brain and 10 years to learn and improve on his basic abilities. So, let's get to the C&C... Personally, I liked Buu setting off that anti-matter whatsits trap. But I like anytime when characters do more than punch kick and fire ki blasts (which is why I've warmed up to Vegetto and Bra's ki constructs, they were just introduced terribly, for Bra to show off, while for whatever reason our Goku and Vegeta never thought of anything like that.) Seemed like it takes at least SSJ3 level power to pull off disintegration. Too bad too, nice to see Kakarotto acting like something beyond a braindead animal... This one is not really a criticism, as much as just talking about my current headcanon of this scene, in which I would change or add in a piece of dialogue about Vegetto during the battle using his ki sense to find and lock on to every piece he could find for his big shining attack you talk of in Page 19. This would make it look more like he had a plan in mind when the battle began, and I'm a fan of characters being depicted being tactical in battle. This I applaud, straight up the best change in this rewrite. The obvious question was that we know Buu's habit of spreading himself out as an infinite failsafe, hiding himself in the audience, in the cracks underground and etc, so how was Vegetto's attack going to get all of them? And the answer we got, SUCKED. That he somehow didn't take something that OBVIOUS (he's obviously been observing Buu's battle tactics and should know his penchant for spreading himself, and he was just TOLD about Buu having spread himself around by Gast, and he didn't think about how to get any of the pieces hiding around and under the arena?! PIS at its finest.) I do wonder how it got through the forcefield around the stadium, though. Could be cleared up with more dialogue, but it would make Vegetto shining attack seem even more miraculous that he was able to achieve that. Poor guy could use a bone lately... Overall, this was a fun and interesting rewrite, and basically I do like this better than what we got because, if this was going to be Buu's last romp, he should go out showing us his full capabilities and giving a big final battle, not no-diffing the entire tourney before being shelved indefinitely. I think my personal ending would involve Buu getting a mixture of angry, amped, and a little worried (he was teaching Uub at the same time, so he may feel he needs to buy more time, actually now I think about it, recollecting Buu into one place might mess that up..... hmm.....) for the challenge he'd been craving for a long time and thus the reason he came to the tournament, fighting Vegetto while at the same time trying to reclaim control of the Vargas tech while the Vargas work fast to patch up their systems and send Buu back. It should make for an interesting battle too, with Buu finally having to deal with that disintegration technique with something beyond being too much everywhere. Maybe he opens a portal. Maybe he transmutes the energy in the wave with magic. Maybe he use magic or some weird technique to reflect it back. Maybe he hardens his body to withstand the blast. Maybe he finally does something other than stand there and get poofed! The possibilities are endless! If I REALLY had the choice I would've preferred a battle against mostly Vegetto with both using all their powers and magics, which is why I'm personally annoyed with him being shunted off after beating everybody in the tourney and proving himself to be the strongest there, never to return. I hope the novel expands on this event.

Buu's regeneration is haxed to hell but there is a limit to it even beyond a Buu beating another Buu. Also main difference between canon Buu and DBM Buu is DBM Buu has the greatest power on his side, author favoritism which takes his abilities and pushes them past their logical extremes. The reason people are annoyed with this fight is cause Zen Buu was introduced as a top tier character, but not the sole powerhouse of the setting (Broly & Vegito to name examples) with implications he was weaker than Vegito, but suddenly he can backhand the entire cast and spend a chapter humiliating them only losing to an Deus Ex Machina.

Them beating him up physically meant nothing other than they can beat them up. You can punch them, and it can hurt them, but it won't do anything to their stamina or get you closer to winning other than stunning them for a moment. It's specifically noted by Vegeta that Fat Buu was dying because he was getting beat up by Kid Buu. The only way a non-Buu can beat them is by disintegration.

The forum had a different reaction than most other places. Nothing wrong with that though but doesn't really reflect the general audience. Majority of the comments in Mondocool's videos were praising Zen Buu and how he's using his existing Buu saga abilities more effectively after absorbing so many skilled people. The reaction to last chapter was pretty positive. I guess it depends how they read the early chapters. I didn't think anything changed about him since it was established early on he spreads pieces of himself to avoid being fully disintegrated. Also implying he had powerful magic he hasn't revealed yet since he thought he could handle Broly after SSJ2 Vegetto couldn't.

Now that this chapter is over and we see how Buu taught Uub magic I have to say I wished this chapter didn’t happen and instead XXI match was extended and Buu’s final defeat was at XXI’s hands. I think most fans would have found that more satisfactory than what this chapter did. That could have also been used to show Buu go all out. Most fans would have felt another powerful magic user defeating Buu was more organic than the way the Vargas did. Let’s say even if XXI’s magic is limited for some reason and that is why he needs the Dragon Balls it is still doable to have XXI use his magic to counter all of Buu’s moves then after he wins we see in his room that the battle took a huge toll on him.
Even if Buu lost to XXI fast thanks to his time dimension he made Uub we know Uub could have still learned magic in time. The more I think about this chapter the more I think it had too many pitfalls to end satisfying for most fans. I think while XXI match would have been more predictable it would have worked better than this chapter overall.

Dude is becoming a little annoying, but I hope the payoff is good for him when it comes unlike with Buu IMO. Even if he one-shots his way through the entire tournament, I better see a good battle with him at some point. That cover was such a fucking lie though, lol. Got me so hyped to see Buu and XXI manipulating eachother in some manner, when it was another one-and-done.

I understand the importance of keeping a secret for the right reveal, but I don't think revealing a little more of what XXI can do during the quarter finals, against another powerful character is going to spoil a whole lot.
