So what do you think happened to him? I doubt he went back to Earth, he wouldn't have wanted to lure Frieza there if he wasn't strong enough to fight him. If that's correct than Goku probably died of his heart virus after a few years on the run.

If that's correct than Goku probably died of his heart virus after a few years on the run. This is a very good possibility. It is implied indirectly that the Saiyan somehow escaped. Then again, I am not factoring if Salagir favors the idea of contracting this Heart Virus in Yadrat. If he does, then we also have to factor Gyniu force likely already wiped out Yadrat considering they were not called to help in Namek. Another theory I have, is that Goku escaped, mastered his SSJ... but eventually Gyniu got Cold's body, mastered it too, and hunted Goku down. This would make room for another awesome special wouldn't it? Him just unexpectedly dying in darkness is a bit lackluster, yet still possible.

Frieza probably just killed him.
But I'm hoping he makes a deal with Ginyu after Frieza beats him and that he's the "Ginyu" that gets shot by Frieza. I could imagine Ginyu realizing he's a dead man with the amount of damage the capitol's sustained, and convincing Goku that the only way he's going to get revenge against Frieza is if they change places. If Ginyu had experience as Goku, that would explain how he 1) mastered SS so easily as Bra and 2) why he thought to push King Cold so far.
I personally like the idea of a Ginyu-Goku goading Cold into a fight and then switching with him, instead of him taking over Cold's cupbearer or something and swapping from there.

In the novel I remember it stating that Frieza killed him once his capital and part of the planet's countryside was demolished. Will get sources if asked mofo's. Edit: Hey Conqueror Geng, should this thread merge with mine "theories about universe 8" since technically it is all the same thing as a whole?

I'd rather keep it as a standalone thread personally because of how often this question comes up, but it's up to you.

See I really can't see Ginyu betraying Frieza at all. I mean in DBZ he could have switched with him at any time (and even if Frieza knew about the ability Ginyu could have switched into a new body then swapped with Frieza to catch him off guard if he wanted to) but he didn't, and he's genuinely loyal to him. Even in Super he stays loyal to Frieza. I can see why his DBM counterpart betrayed him if Frieza murdering him changed him, but honestly it still seems out of character for Ginyu.

Frieza killed him, it was already stated in the novelization. Why didn't Freeza recognize him in the tournament though? Sure, Cell pretended he didn't know Bojack, but Bojack is totally irrelevant. Both Goku and Freeza are a lot more relevant.

Both Goku and Freeza are a lot more relevant. I don't know man, either Frieza is just like Akira Toriyama on the memory department or he simply lied to Gohan when he said he only knew Vegeta. My guess is that he lied or Ginyu did some serious damage on Goku's face during their fight and Frieza didn't have the opportunity to see Goku's face.

I mean, it would be bad-ass if Gyniu's in Cold's body (already mastered) went on to hunt SSJ Goku in vengeance for the humiliation received. Though, for this Goku would need to escape... which would fit with Freeza not recognizing him.

I think Freeza killed him. In the flashback when Freeza met with the battered Ginyu Force he was in his true form. Freeza would only transform unless he was provoked to do so. That is strong evidence that he faced Goku himself. The flashback also showed that Freeza's city was in shambles. There is a very real possibility that Goku's ship was caught in that crossfire, which would limit Goku's chances of escape. Goku's attitude at the start of the special has been him wanting revenge against Freeza. He may not be looking to escape this battle even if he starts losing or worse yet he may try to retreat, but without any backup he simply can't. After all even if Goku pulls off a Solar Flare and hides from him it is more likely Freeza will just unleash a wide range attack like he did on Namek to kill him.

Probably. They did meet resistance as soon as they landed. It was caught in the crossfire, so it could have been damaged or destroyed. Somehow I don't see Goku getting as lucky as he did in canon as in finding a space ship where the coordinates set and he just needs to press the right button to leave.

Yeah, he is now basically lost in space, even if he had won and with the help of King Kai he wouldn't be clever enough to configurate an alien spaceship to travel back to Earth.
