@invaderjim I guess if you're a big fan of a series then you'll always watch it. I don't think there's anything wrong with being honest and admitting that I'm mainly watching this because I like Dragonball and because it has Toriyama's involvement. There were a few interesting concepts but I know I would've likely given up on it already since it uses so many fanfic ideas I try to avoid when I check out a fan comic.
I think even the most diehard fans have a limit and give up when they feel there's not much effort put into the series. I read the ToP had the lowest ratings for a saga in DBS. It could be due to streaming or more casual fans felt like it was dragging on too long. It's only the most dedicated fans that watch everything and go on forums to analyze and discuss the series. Casual fans will watch a series but move on to something else quicker if it doesn't interest them.
I also read that Bandai predicts that their DB revenue is going to drop by 20% next year so maybe demand for new Dragonball content has already peaked. That might be why they're going all out with this movie by having the two most popular villains appear together.

@invaderjim Oh yeah, as much as I rant about how stupid DBS is I admit I'll still watch it, if only to see it through. Partly to be entertained, partly due to bile fascination, and partly in the vain hope it'll get better. But for all the stupidity, I've also watched far, far worse than DBS. Take Arrow for instance, that TV adaptation of DC Comics' Green Arrow character. That one I legitimately stopped watching after I couldn't tolerate anymore. Not only did I stop watching Arrow, but I also ceased watching any shows even remotely related to Arrow as a result (Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, etc).
DBS is a fun stupid. Critiquing it and pointing how it could get better is fun. It has yet to cause me to hit a level where I just drop it entirely, probably because Toriyama luckily stumbled himself into writing a cast of characters I find enjoyable to watch, even as I facepalm at the absurdity of the writing.

I'm not sure how many of these are intentional but I feel like Toriyama likes to poke fun/subvert/outdo some of the ideas that have appeared in GT.
Pilaf Gang In GT, they're old and accidentally wish Goku back into a kid. In DBS, they accidentally wish themselves back into children.
New transformation SSJ4 was a standout and crazier transformation compared to the previous SSJ forms. SSJ God uses a similar color but goes the complete opposite route and closest form to base.
Freeza In GT, Freeza may have trained in hell for years but him and Cell were no match for a base kid Goku. In DBS, Freeza surpasses every SSJ form in four months.
New Dragonballs The Blackstar Dragon is more powerful and even bigger than Porunga while his set scatter across the galaxy. Super Shenron is the size of several galaxies and has no limit or drawbacks to making a wish while his set scatter across two universes.
Body Snatchers Baby is a parasite with a false sense of justice who stole Vegeta's body to eradicate the Saiyan race. Zamasu was a Kaioshin with a false sense of justice who stole Goku's body to eradicate all mortal races.
#17 Two evil scientists work together in hell to create another version of #17, have him fuse with the original, and equip him with energy absorption so that he could eventually stand up to Goku. In DBS, #17 barely trained at all but was somehow almost as strong as Goku's highest form.
Number of planets GT has a vast universe with countless planets like we'd see in most scifi stories. DBS reveals there are 28 planets and some are sparsely populated from what we've seen.

ssj4 vs ssjg, ssjb and so on.
I like ssj4 better in terms of design, but which is stronger? I guess ssjb. Not counting ultra instinct, as thats not unique to saiyans and any god ki user could use it probably.
So, best ssj "ultimate" form goes to what?

I assume SSJG is meant to be stronger since Beerus vs SSJG was threatening the universe. The only thing I recall coming close to that in GT was Omega Shenron mentioning how his negative energy would eventually spread and destroy the universe or something like that. I could see them being considered equal since they serve the same purpose of being the 4th SSJ transformation and share a few similarities. -First new transformation requires outside assistance to achieve (Tail and moon for Golden Oozaru/Five other pure-hearted Saiyans for SSJG). -Next form is a combination of two previous transformations (SSJ and Oozaru for SSJ4/SSJ and SSJG for SSJB). -Vegeta skips SSJ3 and "cheats" to bypass what Goku had to do to reach the new form (Blutz Wave generator for Golden Oozaru /training with Whis to skip the SSJG ritual).

I'm assuming that (head canon here) ssj4 is stronger than ssjg, due to the db heroes cross over, but ssjb is stronger than ssj4 due to the manga xeno goku stating "that ssjb goku is 2 steps ahead of me (panting)" xeno goku even under went the ssjg ritual and then went through the events of GT. capsule corp goku or CC goku went through training with wiss and went ssjb, but had a weaker base form. Basically, ssjg is just a power up for both in this context, adding to their base form, with ssjg later being a form too, I guess. stronger than ssj3, less than ssj4. I guess. ssj4 has better stamina, but ssjb is stronger. Both forms have strengths and weaknesses, so if ssj4 goku took his time to fight defensively, xeno goku could win, if he fights with this strategy in mind. CC goku could win if he knows ssj4 goku is going with that in mind and ends it quickly, faster if he uses kaioken. xeno goku also seems to have better "off guard" defense, as he was able to tank sneak attacks like ice shenrons ice blades, while ssjb goku was taken out by a weak ray gun shot. Both sides have their flaws, but I'd say ssjb is the ultimate in terms of raw power. ssj4 has better defense.

Personally I am more of a general Super guy than GT guy, find the world building more interesting and it has introduced some of my fav characters (Beerus, Hit etc.) and some of the action set pieces are a ton of fun.
Course GT has some fun merits, SSj4 is an excellent design and the Shadow Dragon/Baby concepts are rock solid (Even if I wished they had better execution).

I've been watching Dragon Ball videos on Youtube lately, on various different topics. It got me thinking about GT and Super. In a lot of ways both leave much to be desired for me, especially in characterization. One thing I wish Super had taken a page out of GT's book was focus on one new Super mode at a time and explore it. I much prefer how GT gave us SS4 and explored it and had it be the new super form. I really wish Super had done that with Super Saiyan God. I prefer SSG over SSGSS/SSB. SSG's design is more unique, its style catches my eye more, and it had an awesome showcase with being introduced with the fight against Beerus. In the next movie Toriyama just dumps it for Super Saiyan Blue form. I think that started us down the lazy recolored transformations that started to identify Super as.
I can't help but think what would have happened if Toriyama instead of making SSB to get butts in the seat for RoF, if he had tried to sell the movie by hyping it up as Vegeta's movie and convinced Toei to market the movie as Vegeta vs Freeza. The movie relied on fans wanting to see Vegeta in SSG form for the first time. If that had been done, we could have stuck with more memorable SSG form for Goku and Vegeta to use in Super. Super Saiyan God should have stayed the new super form for longer than it did. At least until Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego got introduced, to give Goku and Vegeta more customized forms.
