Dragon Ball Super General (WARNING: Massive spoilers inside)

As long as there are comments like "This might be the best DB we ever live to see" TOEI will keep throwing shit at us. As long as a majority don't mind it, nothing's going to change. We all know it could be much, much better than what they are doing right now. So much for comedy. Is this a gag manga/anime? Heck even One Punch Man has more seriousness that hits you in the feels AND gives you good comic relief. Naruto was inspired from DB but it went a different path. Yes it isnt GREAT but it didn't ruin everything. Super is such a bad excuse of retconning and pulling new stuff out of their asses every new episode.

As far as I know, a group of young gen kids don't know what's anime or haven't really seen much of it. They are just surrounded by only a few classics like DB, Pokemon and others. Now comparatively the older fans have seen and read a lot to understand and that is why we criticize. The younger audience will not put much thought about it and are just happy on how cool it looks! There are even people now who don't really know DB, Z, GT well enough but got hooked to Super.

I guess only a very few like us are around to talk some sense regarding the injustice being done to what should have been better left untouched.

Edit: I still wonder how GT got disowned? Was the hate energy too strong from the fans that TOEI couldn't bear it?

Well whether we like it or not, DBS isn't made for us old cunts.  It's made for these young fucks that don't know shit from clay.  I remember reading posts from people actually defending the animation from ep5 when it first aired...

Goku Time viewership was just laughably low in Japan, that's why they stopped it at 64 eps.  Say what ya like, but at least GT wasn't offensively bad. 

However in the end, as much as I shitcan both DBS and GT, I will sit through every damned second of them coz I am fucked in the head and can't help myself.

I still don't understand the reasons for big studios dishing out bad animation when smaller ones do with so much enthusiasm! If what we have here are dedicated fanboys and girls how voluntarily want to make DB great, are just blindly going forward and splashing the canvas with whatever they have in hand! (One Punch Man animation team had a bunch of dedicated volunteers that loved what that did and put a lot of effort in helping with the animations. That is how a show with low budget dished out a beautiful anime.)

The difference between those are that they were made by authors who had their own ideas and made their own stories from beginning to end. One Punch Man for example works as both a parody of the fighting genre in general by having one really overpowered person who defeats a large array of monsters and other threats, but still handles some serious storytelling and develops the characters. Naruto build its own world from the ground up and arguably it was one of the modern manga that showed Shonen fighting series could balance character development, story, and action. Neither really outright copied DB or tried to ride its coat tails.

Whereas Super is clearly an attempt to cash in DB revival that Kai and all the anniversary movies started. Those showed DB was still popular and marketable, now we have a series that frankly has no real vision. These writers are just getting ideas from the creator who doesn't really want to do it anymore and just gives them outlines or rough drafts at best and lets them fill in the blanks. Since what most people remember or loved about DB was the mindless action it most likely created this perception that as long as the series has plenty of action and fan favorites like Goku and Vegeta kicking ass, hit new character Beerus that people will like it. To their credit they aren't wrong. DB is so big that it will find a market. There are a lot of fans who grew up in the west that are pretty forgiving of it and chalk up lack of story or characters now growing as being classic DB where characters were mostly the same and story was non-existent, but will heavily criticize new series that use the Shonen model or does what DB does. Sad fact is these people are probably doing what they think made DB work without trying to make a story, because DB was seemingly made up of random arcs with little connection to each other on the surface.

Its random stories put together with no real thought being given to it. To bring back Naruto for instance I can look at the entire series and see how the whole story unfolded and how events were clearly connected to the past ones in an organic way. Newer elements being introduced and fleshed out as it should have been. That is the benefit of the author writing and drawing his story out and having a vision of what he wanted to do. Hell even the original DB manga did that well. The stories weren't all amazing, but Toriyama was good at build his story up and take in the direction he wanted. He may have flew on the seat of his pants, but he still had to sit down and craft a story from what he previously wrote. One arc had its own story that lasted several chapters, had a beginning, middle, and end to them. They ended on their own or when the author felt they needed to end. Now they have a deadline on how many episodes they need in an arc or how many chapters they can spare with the manga.

That doesn't allow for a whole lot of organic growth and why things feel worse. It is why DB inspired series are constructed better or have better structure. It is why so many people have a problem with Super.

You know, all those jokes in youtube "OH BROLY LSSJ3 CONFIRMED FOR SUPER HUEHUE CLICKBAIT" actually came true. "Broly" is indeed coming to Super. Even though he is a woman now. This isn't exactly the fan service that I wanted, but I guess LSSJ is canon now. Now all they have to do is merge Dragon Ball Heroes and Super and make 1 big fan service anime, where we all have what-if fusion characters and forms and stuff.

1)Bobo the Clown and his attendant Harley Quinn. I’m gonna guess they’re a tribute to a certain DC duo. But still, a clown? The only clown in DBZ is Goku. Plus, check out Darth Sidious chilling at the back there. Seems like the type of guy to teleport behind you and go “Nothing personal, kid!”

2)IS THAT DAT MY BOY GOWASU?!? Hanging out with goofy-looking elephant dude. I agree with the others. I might see how Black can wipe planets if this dude is in charge of sorting him out…

3)Other dude is blurry as shit and is hard to see a proper image of him. However, he is rocking a nice hardwear sooo….Good for him? ;p

Well the gods and attendants are kinda lame tbh. Still disappointed there’s no theme that’s relevant throughout them like the god hierarchy. Toriyama did have to design like 120 characters on the fly so a large amount are going to be kind of crappy. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but nothing to write home about.

Fanboyisms aside, this does raise the question of Broly’s…canocity? Is that a word? Roll with it. I know he’s a movie character but this is HIS transformation. Like the one exclusive to him, movie character, never shown in canon before. Sooo, thoughts? It’s weird for them to take a transformation from a movie and make it “canon” right? Man, we cannot escape Broly this last few weeks can we? BROLY ABRIDGED, BROLY DBM, NOW BROLY DBS! DRAGON BALL’S GAINS HAVE BEEN DOUBLED, TRIPLED AND STEAMROLLED.

At this point, it might help if you think of Super as an alternate timeline deal, like GT. I'm seeing all this as a bucket full of cool toys to play with.
