I can see both of your points. On one hand it is clear Vegeta became far more overbearing and arrogant, since becoming a Super Saiyan, to the point that he now saw it as shameful to accept help now that he had become this legendary figure of his people. On the other hand, it can be jarring to see how Vegeta went from criticizing Gohan on Namek for saving him instead of attacking Recoome alongside Krillin to see Vegeta criticizing Trunks at the Cell Games about how disgraceful eating a senzu bean and jumping a superior enemy is with a straight face. In one arc it feels like Saiyans being pragmatic and cunning is valued and in the next arc Saiyans are now characterized by personal glory above all else and now a disgrace to use other means other than one's strength to win.
